Kitson in Sunday Times

by Spud » 10 Aug 2008 11:48

“This changed in our second season. Suddenly we had flash cars, images, egos and everyone knew who we were, and when we didn’t freshen things up with new players we were in a dangerous situation. All too quickly we went from being a side that could lose three games and bounce back immediately by winning three games to a side which could lose eight games in a row, and that just killed us. There was a real ‘Lord of the Flies’ split, which I had never experienced before. We didn’t feel we were all together and I was partly to blame. We didn’t have the vocal players we needed when things were going wrong but we had people pointing fingers, which was not good. Contrast that with our first season when everyone pulled in the same direction and we finished eighth and you can see how we contributed to our own downfall.”

This changed in our second season. Suddenly we had flash cars
flash car + alcohol = trouble.

Still moaning about his drink driving ban!. That synopsis can pretty much sum up some areas but i also remember Kits had stormed out of the dressing room at one game. Was also caning Shorey in front of a few supporters with a couple of other players. Resentment and blame tend to never make for cohesion and teamwork. Scoring points on the pitch and not in the dressing room is how games are usually won.

Mind you, if Harper and Ingimarsson are still going at each other on the pitch, has anything changed?

Surprise, surprise - Kitson gobbing off in the press once again. No wonder the Management at Reading were glad to see the back of him.

LOL @ Stoke paying £50,000 a week though.

Well it's not telling us anything we didn't already know. The team fell out with each other and we played like donkeys as a result.

Good honest article - the split was clear along the bling/non-bling lines I would reckon

Equally as interesting is the following statement

The club employed a [motivational] firm to almost drill into our heads the manager’s message — essentially to set ourselves a realistic target and then break it down in a simple but very calculated way in order to achieve it,” Kitson revealed. “We sliced up the Premier League into four distinct categories: the top four, the next six, another six and the bottom four. We came to understand that we could be successful just by meeting our targets. We didn’t have to win silverware or finish in the top four to achieve this. Success could be measured in relation to who you are and where you have come from. It was very savvy, very clued up and it worked

The whole articile appears to be spot on. Worryingly, we still haven't really freshened up the squad, just lost a few.
