Who should be the Reading Captain after murty retires

by Kieron1981 » 26 Aug 2008 13:05

Ok as far as i can see Murty is on his way out of regular first team football

i think will cause a debate in itself

but if you had to choose another player to take over the helm who would it be

this can be after he retires or murty can pass it to someone else

Duberry isn't in the team enough to become captain.

Rosenier though...Possibly.

As James Harper is vice captain, I'm fairly sure that it will be James Harper. As it stands I don't think we have any real leaders in the team so the captaincy is fairly irrelevant. If I had to choose someone, I think Stephen Hunt comes closest to fitting the criteria.

Tend to agree there Bill, there isn't anyone who appears to be an out and out leader, so I would go for someone who will lead from the front with their style of play and general "go for it" attitude and the only one who fits the bill so far this season for that and is the outstanding candidate, Stephen Hunt, love the guy he just never gives up, bit rash sometimes but he will always give you 100%+

Whoever it is, they'll have a wait on their hands. Murts will be back in the team within 2 weeks (after injury, and a couple of run-outs in the reserves to "up" his pre-season). He wont have any trouble getting back in the team based on recent performances. We have missed his leadership qualities.

Murts will lead the team for this season and next season, then it will be handed over to Alex Pearce who will break his way into the team as a regular by the turn of the year.

Dreadful choice. Not particularly vocal, passes the buck, uncertain of his place.

TBH, we’re short of candidates. Murty’s not terrible. Personally think the captain should be CB or CM. Harper or Duberry are currently the only options, though neither are perfect.

Steven Hunt for his sheer motivational presence. He can tear arse around the pitch chasing the ball and kicking our team up the bum at the same time!

Ingimarsson if he hasn't already retired when murty finishes
Doyle, Harper, Hunt may well have left by then
Players like doobs and hahnemann may also retire

i think it need to be someone on the younger side of the team, we have give it to someone in their 30's and a year down the line they retire

we also need to give it to someone who shows loyalty towards the team
