Apparently Gunnar is close to a return.

I'm actually more concerned than pleased., especially given his form last year. He has lost his pace, and is no longer the player he was before, and I am worried he may stint the development of Karacan, and maybe even get in the team ahead of Marek.

Anyone else share these concerns?

I see your point, but personally, no.

Was pretty awful in the prem in all honesty, but his intelligence rather than pace or skill will make him a good player in the championship if he plays.

good thinking head, and one of the few players we have who could bang one in from outside the box

Would be good IMO until Marek's back, Karacan looked a bit out of his depth against Palace.

Will be pleased to see him back. Just because we rolled over a very poor Palace does not alter the fact that Charlton exposed our lack of an experienced ball winner in midfield. Bryn was not good enough for Prem but should hold his own in Championship and K still has lots to learn.

Whatever!
Does the manager have the best possible team available to him? I think that's the issue here.

Don't think there's any chance of him replacing Matejovsky or Harps however I do agree this could possibly hinder Karacan's development which I would definitely be worried about.

probably the best long shot
and easily the best attacking header of the ball we have
may be slow, but i dont think he really deserves the cristicism he gets

Don't get carried away, he's only back in light training. There is plenty of time for him to have breakdown or pick up some other niggling injury.

For what it's worth I think we missed him last year. He wasn't quite up to it but he was still better than the alternatives we were left with.

Go take a look at our form last season after he got injured.

I'm delighted that, like me, our management clearly didn't think Karacan was out of his depth against a Palace side who looked much better than Plymouth.

However, Bryn could still be a very handy player at this level if he gets back to full fitness and, especially if we lose Harps or SHunt in January.

Bryn's wholehearted and flexible approach will be a huge bonus for us. He can play anywhere and is willing to adapt. I know that he is only on light training at the moment but wish him well for a full recovery and eventual return to contention. His return can only make the squad stronger.

Would be happy to see him back. It would be like seeing an old friend (heaven knows we have lost a lot of them recently).

Can only be a good thing that he is back, a bit more cover and isn't afraid to shoot from outside the box. Must be the only Reading player to do so?

can only be a good thing that he is fit again as he provides backup to CB and CM
he is a decent player who has never let us down when he has played - has received a lot of unfair criticism imo
has proven himself at this level but i would be worried if he was used as a first team regular

What he said

how can it hinder his development? If he plays well when given the chance then he will stay in the team, if anything, he will know he has bryn coming back which will act as a motivator to play well consistently.

Henry's development is more likely to be hindered by the form shown by Kebe thus far, at least Karacan has been given a chance to prove himself

agreed
karacan should be in front of bryn at the moment but who knows with coppell - he seems to show loyalty to our older players so karacan could well fall behind gunnarsson
this would be a bad thing as karacan deserves a chance to prove himself

Don't get me wrong, if bryn comes back and plays like the player he used to be I would be delighted.

BUT

Especially after 9 months without playing, I do not think he will be up to speed, but I worry Coppell will show his usual loyalty to the 05/06 crew.
