Back from the game

by Chaney » 16 Sep 2008 22:58

Yet another ruthless disposal of very poor opposition, but then again some might say that you can only beat what is there in front of you, I firmly believe that when we get the ball down and play that there isn`t a side in the CC that can live with us, Jimmy Kebe continues to be a real dilemma, possessing pace and skill to burn, sometimes his link up play with Rosenior is a joy to watch, Bikey added much needed steel into the centre of defence, something sadly lacking while Inga was there. pretty difficult to be critical of anyone..but we obviously need to transfer this form on to our travels

USA: 7
Rosenior: 7
Pearce: 7
Bikey: 8
Armstrong: 7
S Hunt: 8
Harper: 7
Karacan: 7
Kebe: 8
N Hunt: 8
Doyle: 9

Hopefully Long has started has last game for Reading. N Hunt is head, shoulders and torso above him in every aspect of the game.

to be fair Long came on late and had some impact heading against the bar, that is really the only option, he should never get a start.

Superb tonight, made a side that will finish comfortably mid table look absolute non league. I must say their back 4 is the worst proffesional back 4 I have seen in my life. Apart from being shit in the air, having no pace, no positional sense and incapable of making a 5 yard pass they'll do ok. Our forwards cut them apart.

Karacan waltzed his way round them with skill and flair that i haven't seen in many CM's at Reading, S Hunt again excellent wide left, Noel Hunt again making an absolute mockery of Steve Coppell's selection policy and also the introduction of pace and power to provide the perfect partner for Alex Pearce at the back. Everyone tonight was on the top of their game (apart from Kebe who I thought wasn't as good as he was against Palace) Had he been then it would have been double figures.

Sheffield Wednesday were dire but Reading were ruthless and clinical in front of goal. The 5th goal was a superb bit of play and finish from Doyle and the 6th was reminiscent of Little's goal v Hull a few years ago, from their kick off, fabulous stuff.

The challenge now comes at Watford, they are a poor side who we should beat. No excuses, was this a glimpse/flash in the pan performance or can it be repeated? That's the question that will be answered Saturday. As for tonight, 10/10 brilliant.

I really don't want to criticise anyone after a great performance but I thought Harper was the most subdued player on the pitch. He seems to have lost all motivation in recent weeks. I can almost see him losing his place to Matejovsky when he's fit.

Great result though. Who would have thought only a few weeks ago we'd have a result like that with 3 Academy players on the pitch at the end, with two of them playing the whole game. Thought Bikey and Pearce made a very good pairing at the back. We'll see what they are really made of with the next away game at Watford, which is winnable. Keeping a clean sheet away from home has to be the next target.

Thankyou very much indeed to Sheffied Wednesday for a comedy defending masterclass twice inside the first eight minutes, cigars out time and an enjoyable evening all told. Cracking strike from Doyle for the hatrick, winding back the clock with the kind of goal he used to score quite regularly but hasn't looked remotely like doing for some time. Bikey's header was as majestic as his defensive performance, how some folk can suggest he should play centre-mid when he is by a country mile our best centre-half is beyond me. I rate Noel Hunt quite highly and enjoy watching him play; the sixth goal courtesy of Long and Convey's cameo and N Hunt's fine first touch was a joy to watch and I leaped about two feet in the air in celebration at that one :) . I called us unremittingly average earlier today - that last goal and much of our fine football tonight suggests that comment was perhaps well wide of the mark. But you have to say Sheffield Wednesday were very generous in rolling over and allowing us to tickle their tummies.

Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Watford. Reading 6-0 Sheffield Wednesday. Defeat now for us at Vicarage Road on Saturday :| ? A point (or more) at Watford would indicate a reasonable week in what I expect to be the proverbial transitional year.

Didn't see Harper, today, but I've seen him 3 times this season and I'm still baffled people think he's not trying.

We beat Ipswich and you lose to them so I doubt it will make much different.

Just turn and perform and you will probably be ok.

Well actually Plymouth were pretty dire but just defend well and got their 2 goals.

copied from another thread;

Back from the game, terrific performance. Won't bother with ratings but a few observations;

Kebe - looked a little out of sorts, Sheff W Marked him close early on and he didn't seem to lose the man, but good touches later on.
Shunt - a class above tonight, excellent.
Karacan - I knocked him last home game as lightweight, and rubbish (Compared to the comments on the team board), he had a solid game tonight, simple passes and lots of speed and energy, a good performance. I maintain though, he's a bit light weight, and in the prem will be eaten.
Nhunt - Needs to take the blinkers off when going forward, flagged too often.
Doyle - great performance.

All the rest had solid good games, and a cracking result.

Listening on BBC berks in the car on way back from the match and they said:

"Reading managed to win 6-0 while only playing with 10 men as Kebe was anonymous"..........forgive me if i'm wrong but both of the opening goals came about from fantastic work from Kebe. Beautiful little dink round the defender to NHunt for the first and a great mazy run setting up the defensive panic that allowed the 2nd.

WTF were the commentators on about?

According to the match report the first was from a deflection to Hunt after Kebe was dispossesed.

Really? I was looking down on that part of the pitch and it looked like a beautiful dink around the defender to me (and on the big screen replay)......... as I say, happy to be proved wrong

Alan Partridge Noel Hunt again making an absolute mockery of Steve Coppell's selection policy

To be fair to Coppell he's 5 games into the season, has introduced 3 Academy players, two look like they are going to be first teamers for much of the season, he's got N. Hunt now eased into a starting position and is tweaking his CB pairing. That's not bad going from a manager who stuck with the same team for virtually the whole season last year.

By the way, what happened to Ingi....injured or just dropped?

It was right in front of us in the North stand. Kebe did all the hard work getting into the box and causing panicky responses from the Wednesday defence.

Kebe flicked a back heel forward which went straight to them but they lost it to N Hunt, leading to the goal. Kebe makes some great moves forward with the ball but sometimes asks too much from the intendent recipient, although the net result seems to be usually positive. I like the way he pushes us forward.
