107 Points?

by Winchester Royal » 07 Oct 2008 16:08

So far this season we've picked up 20 points from 10 games. At this rate, we'll end up with 92 points.

According to those who think this team is as good as the 05-06 team, we must surely be gunning for 107 points? Nothing like breaking your own record, is there?

to get 107 points we need to get 87 points from our remaining 36 games, which means a rate of 2.41 points per game.

This allows us to lose 7 of those 36 games, providing we win the remaining 29 games.

Anybody think they can do it?

No - 05/06 was a once in a lifetime experience. If we go up it won't be breaking that particular record.

I'd love to think we can do it, but don't think we will do it.

I'd just like to say that this Division is alot stronger than what it was in the 05/06 season. If we manage to get anywhere near 106 points then that would be brilliant.

From what I have seen so far the league is in no way stronger than the 05-06 season.

Saying that, I dont think man for man we are as good as 05/06. I would be suprised if we got close to 107 points, but 92 points is what i am hoping for as that will almost certianly mean promotion.

FWIW we are only 3 points behind where we were at this stage in 05/06.

It is truly unbelievable how fickle football fans are.

One minute we're useless and mid table bound...................couple of good results...................we're record breakers elect!

I can see them doing it.
At the rate they're going I can't see them losing at all...I admit this is very optimistic, but I think it's perfectly possible. We do seem to outclass a lot of teams when we put our minds to it.

Whilist I don't believe we will do it, as we're only 3 points behind our points tally from the 05/06 season and are scoring more goals, there's still a possibility that we can do it.

and well only be one point behind after we win our next game ..........
already ahead on the goals scored and goal difference

maybe our team actually got better after two years in the prem, and not worse........

and mr cummings, im nothing if not consistently over-optimistic

But they weren't just good results, they were very good results - 6-0, 4-0, 3-0, 3-1 - against sides that weren't a pushover, supposedly, either.

Well we scored 99 goals in 2005-06. I'd say 100 goals might be within reach, points record or not.

to be honest i would be happy with the 92 points

thats would mean at least a 2nd place but most probs a 1st place and back in the prem

107 would be nice... but i cant see it happen... there is more chance of Coppell punching the ref and shouting about stuff

The one minor disappointment from the 05/06 season was that we didn't become the first team to achieve 100pts and 100 goals (although we got closer than anyone else has IIRC), something that could never be taken away from us, even if the points record went. Not bothered about breaking the 106 points record, but I'd love to put that little niggle to bed. We're on the right track with the goals scored, just got to up the points collection a bit...

This league is a lot weaker than 05-06, so I can see it happening, despite the obvious (relative) shortcomings of this squad. Kebe is nowhere near Little's level. Hunt is nowhere near Convey's previous (05-06) level. Shorey was better than Armstrong is, and I'd probably take Kitson over Hunt. Please note: I'm not knocking any players, it's just they pale in comparison to their predecessors.

I mean, two of the supposedly better sides have come to the Madejski and left with 9 goals in their nets between them, and they've only scored one between them. We drew away from home against Watford, Leeds and Sheffield United- if we replace those three with Wolves, Birmingham and PNE then we've already matched our points from away matches against them and scored more goals.

I wasn't confident about promotion this time three years ago. I am now.

Of course it's going to happen. What's the point in only dreaming about the ordinary? I mean, when you have a child you don't have dreams that she will be a shop assistant, or a bank clerk - your dreams are in the nature of Doctor, International athlete, professional musician etc. The reality may well turn out to be more like the former stuff, but dreams are, well, dreams.

And another thing, I hope that this season we lay the ghost of the disgrace of 05/06 when we only scored 99 goals. 100+ or nothing this season!!

Man for man I'd rather have the team we have now from the team in 05/06.
