No appeal for Bikey

by Bill Oddie's Beard » 26 Nov 2008 15:41

The club have decided not to appeal due to 'lack of evidence'.

Wtf? If they're that adamant that he did nothing wrong why not appeal? We're just content to let him sit out for three matches, seems stupid when we've got nothing to lose by appealing.

everyone who was there including commentators and coppell himself have said it werent a sending off. how can there be no evidence, surely if they cant prove he did anything that should be enough.

They have to show supporting evidence - if they can't do that then they can't appeal.

Having a few other people say "he did nothing wrong" doesn't fit the bill for "supporting evidence".

they have shown it on SSN and it was clear that a red card was the wrong decision. is that not enough?

Surely if the video doesn't show him punching Chopra that's evidence enough?!

THe angle they showed if from was not very clear and certainly not clear enough to see the contact that was made and how it was made.

Unfortunately it is "guilty until proven innocent" and not the other way round.

If you can't see it conclusively on the TV coverage then it's unlikely that the appeal will be upheld and, essentially, it's the ref's word against Bikey's. In this case we would expect an extended suspension for "wasting the FA's time".

At least he'll be back in time for the B'ham game, although he could do with a bit more playing time between now and then to put the Southampton nightmare behind him.

Given that Barnsley were able to give further evidence in the Hume/Morgan incident and the punishment was not overturned, the club haven't really got an option.

There's always a chance the ban could be extended for a failed appeal.

Perhaps an honest player would stand up in a fellow pro's defence and confirm that he was not punched.

Cannot bans be extended if the appeal is unsuccessful, and also a fine imposed?

He'll have the Norwich game before the Brum game to do this...

I don' tthink it is a 3 match ban for a straight red.

Denying a goal scoring opportunity is a straight red but only gets a one match ban.

However Bikey was sent off for Violent Conduct which is a 3 match ban.

Shame the video footage is inconclusive but makes sense not to appeal just for the sake of it, although obviously clubs like Chelsea get players off bans despite there being no evidence you can see that the FA won;t view us in the same light as they do the corporate brands.

Can't help feeling that if Bikey had of punched Chopra he probably wouldn't have got up.
