Please give Henry a chance

by andrew1957 » 06 Dec 2008 17:57

With Kebe's unfortunate sending off the only bright spot I can see is that this gives James Henry a fantastic chance to shine in the next two home games.

But I fear that instead SC may choose to play without two wide players and bring in Gunnar as a third central midfielder. Mick Gooding has just said on BBCRB that he expects SC to play that way. I really hope he is wrong and that we do give Henry the chance.

'greed. Henry certainly had bided(sp?) his time for a shot in the first team. Can see gunnar being played though infortunately.

I tend to agree that even though we have several young lads, with ability, they are and have been struggling to get a first team run for a few years now, either SSC doesn't believe in the youth policy or he doesn't rate them fully expect an experienced midfielder, Gunnar, to fill the Kebe slot, Need to be a bit careful on Tuesday Blackpool have won 4, Drawn 3 and only lost 3 away matches this season.

I would love to see Marek get his chance out right. Potentially the best player we have and he has experience as a right winger. I also don't think Gunnar is capable of the full 90!

Bobby Convey on the left, Stephen Hunt on the right? Happened for a short while last season!

howser either SSC doesn't believe in the youth policy or he doesn't rate them

Or he picks on ability rather than age ?

Agreed. That's the only bright spot I can see.
My argument is that if Henry's good enough to be a substitute, surely he should be given a start?
If he underperforms, sub him off at half time and that's that...

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Henry given a chance against Blackpool. He's been a regular on the bench and has come on a few times towards the end of some matches. Also played the whole game against Stoke in the cup. All this suggests that he should be next in line to play on Tuesday.

If I were him I'd be disappointed to be overlooked for someone like Marek, who is not a right winger in my book. Cant see Convey starting but might make the bench.

Reading 3-1 Liverpool HTH

Although I agree, the last thing we should do is bring Convey in ahead of Henry or Marek.

Ahhh yeah, that makes up for relegation noooob. If it worked then why didn't coppell stick with it? Exactly! It was make shift because we had no other (good) options.

Henry now has experience and has grown as a player and is ready.

Its a real tough one actually... If Murts is fit then Rossie can play on the wing if not Henry is our only out and out winger.

I think we wouldnt go far wrong playing Gunar and then Marek after 70 mins if needed.

Bryn has saved us 4 points in the last 3 games and I for one wouldnt begrudge him a start.

Areed, but not at the expense of changing our formation. We play 4-4-2, it's what we do best.

Coppell prides himself on consistency.....if we win the team stays the same...the shirt is yours to lose.
Last week Duberry was put into the team (rightly or wrongly?) becuase (to quote coppell) 'he is a specalist in that position'.....now he needs to be consistent and give Henry the nod as he is the only other specalist right midfielder. Also if he is good enough for the bench then he must be good enough for the first team otherwise it is a pointless exercise.

As much as i feel sorry for gunnar as he deserves to be playing, above Harper IMO(but that is another thread), he is not a RM, nor is rosenior, nor Marek.

Keyboard warrior. I didn't say it was any good overall, I merely pointed out that it had its redeeming features. The fact that that you can't deal with opinions other than "good" or "bad" is your problem, not mine.

Anyway - Henry in now, if it doesn't get overturned.

it will depend on whether we appeal against kebes red card. sounded harsh but no doubt we wont bother due to a "lack of evidence"

so kebe probably out for 3 games
i would love to see henry starting

otherwise i guess convey could play RM but he is out of favour at the mo
doyle has also played there but it would be a huge mistake to stick our most prolific striker on the wing. also it would mean long would have to start :x
