Definately.
He needs to start games, starting games will improve him as a player.
Loan him out to a League One side. He might impress or he may not, either way, it leaves Mooney on our bench - much better than Long.

imo yes. he needs to be starting games and trying to get some confidence in himself

however coppell seems unwilling to give any of our other strikers a chance on the bench (Mooney/ Church) so long has to stay

as lita is out on loan and is not likely to appear for the club again we are left with 3 strikers (Doyle/ Nhunt/ Long) who are deemed to be up to the correct standard by mr coppell. so on that basis we need to keep long

no but he hasnt been out all season

i am saying that when given the option coppell doesnt choose mooney or church for a place on the bench - no matter how badly long has been playing

When was Rafa Benitez scouting at a Reading game?

Yep, just said this on another thread.

Badly needs confidence. We would have to sign a new striker though. Lita won't be back, Mooney/Church are not good enough at the moment to come in for SHunt/Doyler.

Benitez wasn't scouting, he was in his dugout.

I think a loan spell would help us discover if he really is a footballer or not. It's difficult to tell from Subs appearances.

Hopefully another striker will come in during the Jan transfer window, when Leroy does one, allowing Shane to go and find his form - or not.

He should have been loaned out the moment we were in the Premiership, imo, then this season, he'd have two seasons of regular football under his belt and would probably be a much more effective 3rd striker.

We have a cracking pair up front and absolutely no strength in depth in this part of the squad.

Completely agree. I would like to see Mooney given some time to impress in the near future (when he gets back from injury of course).

This is the best thing that I have ever read from you drummer!

I do agree - how can you get any experience by playing for only 20 mins a game.

I really thought that his desperation to get on the score sheet last night, and having a tussle with S Hunt was a real real shame. Not a real high in his short carrer but it certainly did make an impact!.

To say yes is to presume to know better than Coppell. A dodgy position. Coppell likes him, and so I back Coppell. On the other hand, I expected him to come good by now, which he hasn't. The Hobnob team advisors are almost always wrong, but they scored a rare success earlier this season when NHunt replaced Long in the pecking order. For a few games it was counter-intuitive that Coppell was picking Long over NHunt, but Copps came round.

Practically, though--Long's abilities aside--it would be daft to loan Long out right now. That would leave us without a known-quantity striker substitute unless Lita comes back.

As oppose to a striker that we know isn't good enough?
