No Sub Keeper on Saturday

by Friday's Child » 11 Dec 2008 07:52

So, we appear to have no sub-keeper because AFed will play instead of the injured Marcus, with no-one to replace his bench position due to the fact that we have emergency-loaned out our 4th choice keeper to Brentford, who has been called in to replace our 3rd choice keeper due to suspension !

Are we going to emergency-loan then, to either take a first team place or warm up the bench? One would hope so, but it is already Thursday.....

We''ll stick one of the Academy goalkeepers on the bench. It's only Saturday that is affected and it is highly unlikely that we'll lose two keepers mid game in two games.

in that case why have a sub goalkeeper on Saturday, lets give another 1st team squad player a seat on the bench giving ourselves more options if we need to change things

Because as it's highly unlikey there is still the possibility - if we have a Phil Jageilka in our midsts who is a decent keeper as well as outfield player than go for it.

Otherwise I see no harm in having an Academy keeper on the bench, at worst we'll have a specialised (if inexperienced) keeper to call on that could turn in a Jamie Young type of appearance, at best the lad gets experience of being in the first team squad on a matchday.

I think I'd rather have an 18 yo in goal for an hour than lose our main strike threat as well as a keeper.

Can we just pluck a keeper out of the Academy and stick them on the bench? don't they have to be a registered member of the squad and all that?

I'm sure there's a keeper kicking around somewhere that we can loan for one match.
Or maybe not.

That's not how probability works! Before Marcus was injured you would have had a point.

Given that one keeper already is injured, the risk of Federici then getting injured on Saturday is no different to any other game. Up to now RFC judges that risk to be sufficiently high that we have always had a keeper on the bench.

We've not had to dredge the academy to put one on the bench before.

McCarthy sounds the best bet though.

I'd have very little faith in Bikey, unless someone knows he has keeping skills and aren't just suggesting him because he's big.
