Anyone Noticed Our run-in?

by Snowball » 20 Jan 2009 09:44

IF we avoid defeat against Wolverhampton...

We ought to win this league (yes, even if we draw)

Anyone bothered to see who we have played already?

Most of the big clubs we've played away, a fair few home and away

Played Away

01 Wolves
02
03 Birmingham
04 Sheffield United
05 Cardiff
06 Preston
07 Burnley
08
09 Swansea
10
11 Ipswich

So we only have TWO sides from the top 11 to play away (QPR and Palace)

Already Played HOME and Away

After Tuesday

01 Wolves
05 Cardiff
07 Burnley
08 QPR
09 Swansea

I must admit I'm very worried about the Wolves game because a defeat then will probably
mean defeat at QPR, 3 bad ones on the trot, but from then on in we have easily the softest
run-in and Birmingham still have to come to us.

Most likely result v Wolves is a score draw (2-2?) and then we might get something at QPR.

If we do, we're set.

IMO if we get 3+ points from the next two we should win the Championship

I have said to quite a few people that we have, on paper, an easier run in than the other teams up at the top; the problem is, of course, that "on paper" we should have got 6 points against Southampton.

I hope that Coppell and the players treat EVERY game from now on as the single most important game of the season, and assumes nothing regardless of our opponent. If we do that, we certainly have an excellent chance of finishing in the top 2.

weren't we supposed to have a nice run in last year? Except we cocked it royally and did really badly in the bit before it as well?

And possibly a red card for one of their strikers too?!
How many fans are they bringing down?

It'll be an intresting game to watch, i'm hoping it'll be the best game so far this season.
We can win if the players/staff etc go into the game with the right frame of mind! A win would be marvelous but i don't mind a draw at all. Concerning the run-in and concentrating on the next 2 games, if we put in a good display and gain a result against Wolves we will actually manage to score a goal(s) against QPR!

Championship is much more even than we think.
Every team has a chance to beat every other team.
Don't jinx us. :?

Do you actually read what is posted on HNA, or the official site??? Wolves have the South stand, east side only, so just over 2400 ish, the other side of the south is on sale to home fans.

There's not a lot in it really.

Wolves have 18 games left, 8 against teams in the top half and 10 in the bottom half. Home 3 top,6 bottom, Away 5 top,4 bottom
Reading have 18 games left, 8 against teams in the top half and 10 in the bottom half. Home 5 top,4 bottom, Away 3 top,6 bottom
Birmingham have 19 games left,7 against teams in the top half and 12 in the bottom half. Home 3 top,6 bottom, Away 4 top,6 bottom

So on balance Birmingham have the easiest run in and on paper ours is marginally easier than Wolves as we have 2 more of our games against top teams at home.

Wolves still have to play Birmingham which means one of them will drop points at least.

I would break it down to 6 batches of games of which are 3 easier and 3 are harder

27 Jan Wolverhampton H Championship
31 Jan QPR A Championship ............................... (Harder)
3 Feb Doncaster A Championship

7 Feb Preston H Championship
14 Feb Derby A Championship
21 Feb Bristol City H Championship ........................(easier)
28 Feb Nottm Forest H Championship

3 Mar Sheff Wed A Championship
7 Mar Plymouth A Championship.............................(harder)

10 Mar Charlton H Championship
14 Mar Ipswich H Championship..............................(easier)

21 Mar Crystal Palace A Championship
4 Apr Coventry A Championship ..............................(harder)

11 Apr Sheff Utd H Championship
13 Apr Blackpool A Championship
18 Apr Barnsley H Championship ..............................(easier)
25 Apr Norwich A Championship
3 May Birmingham H Championship

11 easier to 7 harder I can live with that.

I'd like to know on what basis you've done that!

Sheff U and Brum are both fighting for promotion, but come in an easier period. Ipswich and Charlton who have both beaten us already come in an easier period. Yet Sheff W and Plymouth, both teams we've beaten, one very convincingly come as a harder period.

Is it based solely on whether we're home or away!?

Its going to come down to the last game of the season versus Brum.

We will both be playing for second place or a play off place.

I think that is fair comment and I would settle for that, though not sure I could watch !

It's obviously got a basis that home games are easier to win than away games as our record shows but we have beaten both Shef Utd and Brum away so I feel we should beat them at home, yes we got beat by both Charlton and Ipswich but that was early on in the season and I would be sorely dissapointed if most people didn't think that both Charlton and Ipswich at home didn't fall in to the 'easier' category give current form.

As for the other two games... Shef Wednesday are a far better team now than when we stuffed them at home and there are only two teams that have lost fewer games at home than them.

As for Plymouth... I just can't see us beating them for no apparant reason... so I will give you that one.

Its the 'easier' games that we have struggled with this season IMO. Charlton, Southampton, Forrest etc. We seen to rise to the occassion in the big matches but drop points in matches we shouldn't.

The odd thing is that I feel more confident that we will win playing against the good sides. When we play sides that we should easily beat, we don't seem to be able to raise our game to it's best standard.
