Rumour - Convey out?

by LoyalRoyalFan » 19 Jan 2009 17:15

There is an article on the back page of the EP saying that MLS side San Jose Earthquakes have enquired about buying Bobby Convey.

I wouldn't be surprised. When I saw he wasn't on the bench for Saturday nor is he in the ressies lineup for tonight, I immediately thought he might be part of a deal; either coming back here to the US or to another c'ship side for $ and a player.

I'd love to see him over here tho.

It's no real surprise. He's never got back in after his injury woes and he'll be wanting to play. He's not going to manage that here.

We're probably just holding off until we know the Shunt situation and any potential incoming transfers, like Campbell-Ryce

Was brilliant before he suffered his knee problems. His future doesn't belong with RFC though.

Convey was never brilliant.

He had a half decent season in the championship winning campaign, and that was it. Nice lad though.

I'd have to say he was more than half decent in the championship season, probably 3rd behind Doyle and Blakey. But he hasn't reached anywhere near those levels since then so I think we could be looking to get rid

An absolutely essential part of the 05-06 team and really Blakey and him should be linked together for ever as it was having a pair of wingers that made us so deadly.

Coppell maybe has been too patient with him, he was the business a few seasons ago, but I can't see any point keeping him.
He hasn't stepped up or improved, probably his injuries meant he has gone backwards.
So yeah, selling him would be good for him and us.

He was quality in 05-06, but shown nothing before or since.

I think his problems are more Mental then Physical.

Agreed..and S Hunt a bit part sub in that season is now worth millions (apparently) and Convey next to nothing. How things change.

Thats a bit harsh, unless you're only answering the latter of the question, in which my answer is also no.

But I do have good memories of him - particulary the run he did against Millwall inside our half to go one on one with the keeper and calmly slot it home. But unfortunately due to injuries, we have coped fine without him

It's a shame he only had one good season, but I think that is more down to persistent injury problems than any lack of ability.

He will also be missed at the RBH, where he used to (and may still do) make regular visits to the chidrens ward. 12 months ago when my son was a patient there Convey came over to see us, whilst Kitson just stood in the aisle looking like he didn't want to be there.
