The so called challengers fade away

by londinium » 17 Feb 2009 22:02

Great set of results for us tonight only slightly spoiled by Burnley's equalizer.

So how the teams still possibly chasing the top 2 spot now stand relative to us:-

9th Swansea 11 points behind us played 1 game more
8th Bristol 9 points behind us played 2 games more
7th Burnley 8 points behind us played 2 games more
6th Shef utd 8 points behind us played 1 game more
4th Preston 6 points behind us played 2 games more

Unless one of that lot has a major run then i would put them out the frame, that leaves:-

5th Cardiff 8 points behind us played two games less
2nd Brum 1 point ahead played 1 game more
1st Wolves 4 points ahead played 2 more games than us

Unless Cardiff go on a great run there fixture pile up looks like it may hurt them as they don't have a great in depth squad and 2 games every single week until the end of the season.

Brum, to me look the nearest team to claim one of the other top 2 places.... although i really hate them because of all their 1 goal victories this season and fairly dull football for a team that promises so much on paper.

As for Wolves...as we all know... they will let their fans down AGAIN.

6 points from our next 2 home games will see us in a great position and I for one am sticking to my pre-season prediction of Champions for us.

Looking at it now it's looking good for us despite a couple of average results lately.

Yes, the Championship is ours if we can stop being average for the rest of the season. But how would we manage if, god forbid, our top goal scorer was out injured for all or a lot of the remainder of the season? Could we still maintain the push with the squad we've got? Personally, I think they'd be a massive hole & we'd really struggle unless...

where we have a squad where even the goalkeeper scores..I wouldn.t worry too much

Goals (like our last Championship season) are coming from everybody

Excellent set of results for Reading

Such a shame that incredible team BRISTOL lost to a side in FIFTEENTH place (quality!)

LOL @ the jubilation on this thread. So we're guaranteed at least a tear-drenched, face-paint smeared play-off disaster then?

Hold on, aren't you the formguide goon currently boring the pants off us on almost every other thread? Have you seen Doncaster's recent form? For those of you who think we have promotion stitched up (the same goons who had the bunting out when we were 6 points clear with 6 to play last season), we actually have to play those games in hand; one of which is an unappetising midweek trip to Donny, another of those good footballing sides we struggle so badly against :|

I agree with all of that - but we did beat them in November...

Oh dear another over reaction to a set of results. Let's worry about are own form before we look at other scores. Don't forget we have to play Donny away and they are top of the current form league. Saturday we will be a very tough game as will the likes of Barnsley and Charlton at home these teams are fighting for every point, Wednesday away will be a hard one to call as they are so inconsitant. Sorry for the cliche but as tonights results show there are no easy games in this league.

You fail to realise that Snowball has specifically used different criteria in which to judge that result, as it fits what he wants to say. If he was consistently using the same criteria for everyone, he'd be defeating his own argument. Which would never be acceptable as he speaks FACT!!!

Change the record, Ian. You're developing a Spaceyesque obsession with regards to Snowball.

In other news, Cardiff's reserve keeper is now injured meaning they are down to their emergency loan keeper. Do football league loan rules permit them to sign another emergency loan keeper as backup?

There's nothing like a nice little rant to relieve some stress. And snowball is an easy target. I'm TRYING not to argue with him as much though. I just need to ween myself off by sniping from the sidelines for a little while. I just can't take going cold turkey.

It's not like I'm referring to him as Gayball or anything.

You sure? If so, makes a mockery of an already shambolic system IMO.

Come on, what's wrong with having a chat about results elsewhere? Especially when our own lot haven't played for a while.

Having seen Doncaster earlier in the season I'm quite glad, and not at all surprised to see them pull away from the bottom.

Good team.
