When Matejovsky Starts

by Snowball » 27 Feb 2009 16:00

Matejovsky has started 7 Premiership and 1 Championship game

W4 D2 L2 (Fulham (H) & Liverpool (A) = 1.75 points a game!!!

W 1-0 Boro................... Matejovsky debut - Reading's first win after 8 straight defeats
W 2-0 MAN CITY
L 1-2 Liverpool............ Matejovsky scores a blinder!
W 2-1 BIRMINGHAM
D 0-0 BLACKBURN......... Matejovsky sent off (we lost our next game 0-3 at Newcastle)
L 0-2 Fulham
W 4-0 Derby

Played 7 Won 4 Drew 1 Lost 2 10-5 13 Points from 7 games = 1.86 points per game = a 70 point premiership season (5th) !!!!

He also played the last 29 minutes at Arsenal (L 0-2) Came on when it was 2-0 Arsenal and also played the last 25 minutes
in 0-1 defeat to Spurs. We dominated that 25 minutes and Cerny pulled off at least two top-drawer saves to deny us the draw.

SO WHERE EXACTLY DOES THE ANTI-MATTY STUFF COME FROM? When he plays we do well, very well, with just that Fulham defeat in the "poor" pile

This season

42 minutes versus Forest away, 0-0. Came on at Swansea and we started to play

Elsewhere I asked:-

Does that mean Marek started in all the games we won in the Premier League after he joined? I hadn't realised that! I stand to be corrected.

Thinking back, the answer's yes, isn't it?

Out on the right. Didn't work that well.

He needs to be central, in an advanced position where he can hurt teams.

True, but we still won it though. So another win when Matejovsky starts.

This poor lad's got the weight of Hob Nob expectation on his shoulders for sure.

There's still no guarantee that it's going to work or even if he'll play, although I'd be surprised if he didn't I must admit.

True, but it's better to try and fail than for it to forever remain a mystery. Truth is we all know he has talent, but nobody knows yet whether he's the right 'fit'. It's about time someone had the guts to find out.

I agree, he's a good player and it would be great if we could adapt our system to get the full benefit of his skill and vision. Might also help us out of a stale patch where teams seem to have "found us out".

You do know he started in the ones we lost too, like Bolton and Fulham, don't you?

Of course, it's hard to forget such pain. But for some reason I had it in my mind that he was pretty much not involved in anything positive last season, except the goal at Liverpool (I think of Derby as a negative day). And I was at three of those four winning games!

A completely irrelevant stat as in a full Premiership season, we don't get to play those 7 teams over and over again, i.e. we don't play Derby or Birmingham or Middlesbrough 5 or 6 times each.

A big LOL at those that believe he should replace Harper, when they both formed the partnership in the centre of midfield in the games Snowball has mentioned. It oddly forgets to include Villa (H), Everton (A), Bolton (A) where he started and also Chelsea (A) and Utd (H) where he came on as sub and we lost them all. SNOWBALLOLOLOLOL

A big :?: from me wondering where that came from? Nobody on this thread has said they think he should replace Harper, as far as I can see.

The main shouts from the idiots on this board are that he should replace Harper who has been shit.

I missed Villa, apologies, I was eyeballing the web site and missed a block of three games
Bolton away was about six months before he joined the club, you mean the home game, which I also missed along with Villa

The stats still show that Matejovsky playing would have kept us up, almost certainly: With Matejovsky starting we averaged 1.3 points a game = 49 point season = 10th

10th Reading 10 04 01 05 +01 GD 13 points from 10 games = 1.30 Points per Game = 49 point season = 10th Matejovsky starting

19th Reading 28 06 05 17 -26 GD 23 points from 28 games = 0.82 Points per Game = 31 point season = 19th Without Matejovsky

18th Reading 38 10 6 22 -25 GD 36 points from 38 games = 0.95 Points per Game = 36 point season and relegation

L 0-2 BOLTON
L 0-1 Everton
L 1-2 Villa
W 1-0 Boro...................
W 2-0 MAN CITY
L 1-2 Liverpool............ Matejovsky scores a blinder!
W 2-1 BIRMINGHAM
D 0-0 BLACKBURN......... Matejovsky sent off (we lost our next game 0-3 at Newcastle)
L 0-2 Fulham
W 4-0 Derby

This season Matejovsky has started four games

0-0 A Nottingham Forest (42 minutes)
1-0 H Blackpool
2-0 H Norwich
1-1 A Southampton

W2 D2 L0 4-1 2 points per game (undefeated when he starts in the championship)

Try looking at the stats from when Matejovsky and Bikey started in the same team last season.
