Alex Pearce

by The Real Sandhurst Royal » 11 Mar 2009 09:02

Alex Pearce needed six stitches after a clash of heads at Plymouth last weekend yet Coppell selected Pearce to play at home against Charlton resulting in the cut opening up and a need to change the shirt three times in the game.

Why play a player with a head wound whose job is to defend and head the ball throughout the game, surely it is better to wait let the injury heal and use your squad as we have Bikey who is a more than capable player.

Didn't seem to affect him at all last night, he was outstanding. Duberry is far less than a capable player, Bikey should be brought in to replace him.

The club employ a doctor and have the physio team to offer advice to the manager, If they say a player isn't match fit then I'm sure Steve Coppell would take that on board.

Alex Pearce - Player of the season favourite IMHO.

Why does everyone seem to overlook the only player that has been constantly performing all season.. Alex Pearce player of the season   not a hope ...

Chris Armstrong has been the only player who has been a constant this season and he should get 1st 2nd and 3rd place as the rest of the team dont seem to give a toss what happens

Eh? to the "why does everyone seem to overlook the only player that has been constantly performing all season" bit. Members of this site have been full of praise for Stretch all season. Doyler, Ingi and Cisse are the only other consistent performers in my opinion. Ingi's injury takes him out of the Player of the Season equation and Cisse's Sidwellism has been suppressed in favour of a defensive role. So it's between Chris and Kev for me.

Chris Amstrong had a bad game against Forest... I think, maybe it was Bristol City or Preston.... I forget.

LMAO, have a laugh. He is average at best and his passing and timing going forward is absolutely shocking.
He would be first on the list to be replaced if ( big if) we were promoted to the prem.
He's decent against average champ players, been skinned consistently by the better players in the league, mcgoldrick southampton and routledge in recent memory.

In my opinion Armstrong has looked a consistently better player than Shorey did at any point last season and is definitely my player of the season unless something dramatic happens.

Pearce played because he's dead hard, and he's a man. He's also been excellent for us at the back, so let the lad play. On the other topic, Stretch has been superb this season, and the most consistent performer in our team - how anyone can say different is beyond me.
Alex Pearce, future captain.

Yeah, I'm glad their transfer policy is so well thought out - it's certainly brought success in the last two years.

Alex Pearce - Player of the season favourite IMHO.

Just asking: why is he being hailed as such a great defender?

Our defence is a joke at the mo, leaking in goals like crazy. Our poor performances have been blamed on a midfield and starting line up that have been awesome right up util the point we've had to get Feds/Doobs/Pearce in and then we're unable to score without leaking like crazy. Yet we change the only constants in the team but keep in the rubbish defensive unit.

I'm not certain - just a theory - but I'd say the defence is the source of our woes and whilst pearce is doing well as a youngster and is coming on in leaps and bounds I'd be hesitant to call him my season favourite given our awful defence.

West Ham got relegated with David James in goal, does that mean he's not good enough to play in the Premiership?
