Back from the game - Ipswich

by floyd__streete » 14 Mar 2009 16:49

Actually, I am not back from the game, I am currently sat in the Hotel bar with a nice cold pint of Guinness  . Would be halfway back home by now if it wasn't for the fact that I have to wait around for some Ipswich supporting friends. 68 minutes I think it was when I toddled out.

Just thought those of you fortunate enough to be exiled or unable to go to the game would like to know what a pit of despair the ground is these days; souless, silent despair mind. Hardly a chant muttered in anger, nice goal from Stead illuminating a diabolical game. The season couldn't end quickly enough for me now, personally. Same old Coppell failure to arrest a slide. What are we now, 8 games left + 2 in the play-offs. Might as well throw in the towel now really, this team and management are taking us nowhere. What we really need is a punchy, catch-all phrase to sum it all up. How about dull and uninpsiring, that'll do the trick.

Yes we are on the slide. We may not even make the play-offs now.
I'm getting mightily hacked off with Coppell's team selections. I think his time at the club is nearing its end.

Dull an uninspiring is too kind.

Infuriatingly shite would be a better phrase. It makes my blood boil how we were so good early in the season yet now we are playing worse football than bottom of the table charlton, we are truly a poor side with mentally challenged players, coaches and management.
Seasons over, we might scrape the playoffs but it will be the usual heartache, probably get knocked out by swansea.

Coppell has done a great job and furthered us as a club, we are now more established and im thankful. However, we won't be playing prem football next season. We need a fresh manager with some fresh players who have a differant mentality and who are prepared to grind and scrap, something we are incapable of. Some may say birmingham are above us through luck, bollox. They are above us because they grind, they are a shocking side but they don't give up and thats why they get so many last minute goals. We have too many weak minded cotton wool players in the squad.

We might have two games in hand but its gone, over, we are simply crap and will not be going anywhere this year.

Don't worry.

Snowball will have some stats to show us how it's all going to be fine. And the happy clappers will be high fiving each other because, after all, it's little old Reading remember, and being in the championship is brilliant. And it's not an average league, it's just a close one with loads of quality sides.

The team selections are getting confusing to work out, but this problem goes way back to when Sidwell left, and we have never replaced him, at no time have we had a goal scoring midfielder who can also create chances for the forwards, a combination of not being prepared to pay the relevant transfer fees and players wages have been pivital in our failure to secure a replacement. We have being playing pretty awful since before christmas and went through the window without any appreciable strengthening of the squad, What was the point of signing an Ipswich reserve ?? just to look good and appease the whinging supporters over the critisism that we hadn't increased our squad ?

We are sinking out of the promotion picture now, a race that we should have been well ahead of the pack in, if we had invested in January. We have managed over the last few years to do well on the cheap, that is no longer the case.

In some respects I look forward to the end of the season when, hopefully, we have a change of management, although this is slightly worrying also, as to who, with any reputation, will come to a club who has a history of not being willing to invest in what is the, maybe obscene, the present financial requirements in football to attract players who can push us back to the premiership.

+1 We haven`t had a settled side all season, everyone knows you can`t keep changing the team every week and still expect to get results unless you`re Man U (todays result excepted) Utter diabolical shite.

No need to top himself, he'll be given a good farewell when he leaves in the summer, rightly so.

With the performance he masterminded today, he'll probably be strapping bombs of despair and no hope to himself and setting them off before out next games.

We were woeful and there is nobody to blame but the players today. I seriously question, why start with Shane Long, he was useless - what about Noel Hunt?

For the first time in my life, I might be wrong with my prediction that we're going to go up.

We criticise Coppell for not making changes, now we are criticising him for not making the right changes. He really can't win, the only thing that matters is results at this moment and those aren't coming. Back to the drawing board, for me getting Bikey back in for Doobs, starting Matejovsky and Cisse in the midfield and giving Doyle and Kitson the strike partnership is an answer. It might not be THE answer, but it is worth a punt.

Read my posts for team selection for the last 18 months or so - I've not changed my demands but Coppell still can't suss the most effective team selection.
