Play-off Watch

by Deathy » 14 Mar 2009 18:14

You're a fool if you still think automatic promotion is likely. Mathmatically still in the hunt, but that's fading and fast.

So here we are again, staring at the play-offs. A possible trip to Wembley on the cards, great day out... Great way to win promotion if you win, but after seeing losses to Bolton in 95 and then Walsall in Cardiff in 01, failure again would be heart wrenching.

Failure to go up will see quite a clear out, sadly including management. Possibly a good thing, but then you see the likes of Leicester and Charlton and you have to worry what manager will come in here and what players can be brought in - but that's for the summer - possibly.

FWIW, I'll have Sheffield United for the Play-off semis. They do like their bogeys.

What's the current league table? (Sheff Utd have their game in the bag against Donny, so add 3 points for them)

I think you can remove that picture from your avatar now Jay. Won't be needing that. Unless you edit it to include a Reading fan.

Do you actually think we will make the play-offs? Another 10 points needed for that to be guaranteed I think. Where are they coming from?!

Perhaps we should retitle this thread Play-off Death-Watch then.

Who do you think?

Assuming we pull our season together and manage to finish 3rd, who do you think we'll be most likely to play?

Where is the option for 'none of them'.

The way we are currently performing it is dangerous to assume we will even make the playoffs.

Unless there's some dramatic turning point, we are going to finish 7th or 8th. Cardiff are 5 behind us, but have two in hand. With 6 of the last 9 away, we can't expect too many victories.

And with luck we could get yet another trip to Ninian Park. A 3rd Final visit!

Whilst I suspect that we will make the play offs there is no way I can see us beating any of the other likely PO contenders over two legs so I doubt very much whether a trip to Wembley will result. However at least we will be saved the embarrassment of the current squad performing in the Prem.

Plenty of similarities with Watford last season.

After looking nailed on for promotion, they fell away dramatically, limped into 6th place and were hammered in the play offs.

Quite possible Wolves/Brum won't need another point to finish ahead of us and equally possible we won't be in the play offs at all.
If we are, a drubbing seems more than likely.

Why go up we are quite simply not good enough. Looking at the table and our form we will finish outside the top 6 at this rate.

Not sure we have really looked nailed on certs for promotion, certs for the play-offs yes.

At the moment my hope would still be for a top two finish, dented this week by results. If that aim falls away then play-offs will be what i look towards, at each drop in expectation I look to the next best thing.

In our current form............

by sawyers left arm » 15 Mar 2009 07:52

We wont even make the play offs. The pack are closing in and our play is predictable and boring. I couldn't care less any more because what is the point in going up anyway, we would be mullered with this shower. Having said that so will Wolves and Brum.
