Furthest you've travelled to watch RFC

by Magnus » 27 Mar 2009 16:12

What's the furtherest distance you've travelled to watch your beloved team play?

Probably Sheffield for me.

Middlesbrough. Lost 4-1. It was the second time I went there. The first time was to Ayresome Park to watch Middlesbrough play Liverpool.

Hartlepool - the year they looked as though they might drop out of the league. Can't even remember the score but it was bloody chilly, courtesy of the wind coming in off the sea. The monkey was swinging like mad from its noose!

Got quite a few programmes from the game somewhere. Figured they might be a collectors' item if they dropped out of the league! IIRC it was back in the time when the bottom league club could be re-elected and that's how they survived.

The thing about football programmes is that there are so many collectors out there I doubt any modern era programme will ever fetch a great sum, or even much more than the cover price, as there are just so many of the damn things about.

Unless anyone has any counter examples?

Lightweights.

Seen glorified training sessions/practice matches deep in a Swedish forest...

otherwise Newcastle, of course, for serious matches.

Newcastle was the furthest.

But playing with the idea of a trip to sweden in pre-season if the club opt to tour there again.

Whereabouts in Sweden did they tour? Have the club got a link to the area somehow?

Sunderland, because we had to go to Newcastle, and then get the metro down to The Stadium of Light.

I doubt there are that many programmes around from that particular Hartlepool game!

Likewise those from RFC's days in the lowest division. At least I'm hoping so, as I hope to sting a glory hunting plastic for a great deal of money when we are firmly established in the top flight!

I think so. I've done Darlington three times and it didn't seem anywhere near as far. Strange thing is, there is only 12 miles difference. 270 v 282 miles!
