Three wins and we will still go up

by andrew1957 » 16 Apr 2009 18:19

Just as a counter to all the negativity I still think 4 wins and we are up.

Yes it is a long shot but taking it just one game at a time we may still just do it. A win tomorrow is obviously essential for confidence to start to return.

Then we just need a few results to go our way and there are always strange results at this time of year.

Come on URZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

For the stattos we need Birmingham to draw one of their next 2 games and Cardiff to lose one or draw two of their 4 and Sheffield to lose one or draw two of their last 3. All have difficult games.

More than 1 more win before the play offs will be a pleasant surprise.

Love the positivity mate and I realise this isn't the prediction thread but Saturday's game has got 0-0 written all over it.

Barnslee desperate for points, have scored 14 in 20 away games. Us at home.....less said the better.

The positvity on the forum is fantastic! "if" we don't get promoted it there are some people I think we need to put on suicide watch over the summer.

it'll all be ok its still in our own hands

it'll all be ok its still in our own hands

it'll all be ok we just need a bit of luck and a result or two to go our way

it'll all be ok, we still have a great away record

it'll all be ok we still have a good away record

it'll all be ok we still have a fairly good away record

it'll all be ok if we win all 4 games and 3 other teams all cock it up

I admire your positivity but you also need to accept that on current form we may not even make the play offs

The 'cup final' on Friday was so poor that Blackwell should've been presented with a trophy made out of dogshit.

Summed up pretty much by others.
In the ideal world we would have won auto with panache and flair, spanked the other teams and gone up with the confidence we could fight in the premiership. This has not happened for numberous reasons and the second half of the campaign has been disasterous. Was it a case of high expectations from the club /supporters and the hope that a team that has experienced the premiership had the desire to revisit the hallowed turf of the premiership fixture list. Probably. Have the club failed and the performance trailed off - yes. On numerous occasions the relief of an ugly win became the norm instead of the flair and convincing wins we all desired.

Was this the championship way - yes, and it was used as a basis for pushing out excuses about underestimating the desire, tactics and stamina of teams in this league. We are a championship club with the lofty aims of becoming a stable premiership team which would be aiming for mid table mediocrity, basking in the glow of a higher profile, higher income and greater credibility within such a league.

The optimism and bile show this desire from the supporters. Both heartening to see and also frustrating to read but basicly founded in the desire for continued success within the club. The dissapointment will be palpable come the last day of the season when we are pushing for promotion through the playoffs. The playoffs are the further lottery which will add a glimmer of hope to those eternal optimists who believe it will still be achieved. It can be achieved but is not the given right, and this season is very likely to be the so close but so far scenario that many have resigned themselves to.

Appologies for a wordy response.

I doubt even Wolves feel they can compete in the Prem, but no doubt they will go and spend 20million in the summer, giving fans a belief, before getting relegated again.

People really do not grasp how difficult it is to compete, even in the lower reaches of the prem, as soon as you get a decent player others come sniffing around. You have a good little run and are told how refreshing it is, aka hull, then it all gets tough and the fall starts, other than 7 teams every Prem club has been touted as in relegation danger at some point of this season, difficult to manage a team in that situation.

I pointed this out last season.

In July and August, it was "wait until the end of September, after the transfer window has shut, then we can judge"

In September through to December, it was either "let the new signings bed in" or "We've got plenty of time to turn this around" or, even, "We'll sort out the gaps in the squad in January" - we could wait, there was time, there was 30, 20 however many games left. Wait and then we can judge

In January, it was a case of "wait until the end of the transfer window before you judge our dealings"

Towards the end of the season, it was "There's still games to play, judge then. Save your criticism til then"

And then, when we went down, it all switched to "Oh, but it doesn't matter anyway!" :|

This season, its been a case of "we're doing well, win our games in hand" to "Its still in our hands" to "Well, we can assume Birmingham might slip up" and finally we get "Well, next season we'll have the kids through so it doesn't matter anyway".

With our current form and dour performances, we're far more likely to lose all 4 games.
