...and let us not forget it came after a run of only one win in 9 games, as our large lead was slowly whittled away.

Hope is not lost this year...

Do me a favour, who in our midfield on saturday would have emulated Parky`s flick on?
Regarding that Brentford game, true we were on a poor run of results at the time but the team were playing far better football than presently and I think most people were optimistic about the outcome. Unlike now.

My favourite ever day supporting the Royals. I will never forget it. The After Dark that night was a sea of blue & white. Magical memories.

Agreed 100%, what a game. I really can't believe it's been 7 years now! One of the things I will always remember about that day was leaving the away end after an hour of celebration after the match (only seemed like 5 minutes mind you) and outside there was a guy trying to sell "Reading Fc, Cardiff Millenium Stadium Playoff Final 2002" Merchandise  .
The thing that set that apart from the promotion to the premiership in 2006 was that nothing seemed inevitable. In 2006 we were winning it at a canter and it had become more when we were going to win the league rather than if. In 2002 it was effectively a playoff final in which we were the away team (Brentford had only lost at home once all season) and on a poor run of form at the time, seemingly looking to throw away promotion. These factors including the previous years heartbreak in Cardiff made it all the more sweet. :P

P.s. What a goal!

Can't say I remember us playing better football, I just think the expectations were lower. Failure seemed inevitable and was a familiar taste back then. Just to have something to hold on to was enough. That Brentford game was a dreadful match for the neutral. According to the neutrals I was with, anyway.

Who set up Rowlands goal for Brentford?

Brilliant day; weather was perfect, drama to the end, pitch invasion with Brentford threatening to kick off and a brick through our train window on the way home

Pardew saying we weren't going there for the draw, followed by us not crossing the half way line until we were one down.

Unusually for a pessimistic git like me, I remember feeling strangely confident we would pull one back.

Most important goal in Reading's entire history IMHO

That was the day Seb met Muppet for the first time. And she didn't turn into a lesbian, so thank heaven's for small mercies....

'Don't let it bounce Adi.'

What a day. Brentford fans were not happy.

Agree with Schards about what a massive result it was, think Pardew would have strugled more the next season.

Me too. I never doubted for a minute that we would get a goal back. Strange, given my usually perenially pessimistic outlook. Likewise, the following season, I never for a minute thought we;'d beat Wolves in the play-offs.

Totally agree, whilst I had tears in my eyes at Leicester, nothing will ever surpass the shear joy when that equaliser hit the back of the net. In 2006 we all knew promotion coming at some point, that day at Brentford I felt it had been snatched away from us until Curo scored. Such a mix of emotions in such a short space of time!
