Coppell interview.....

by IMAMATEOFJOVSKY » 04 May 2009 13:45

So who was Coppell firing the bullets at in his interview ??- saying that some players were treating the ball like a hot potato and basically didnt want it .....guess we will know when he picks team for play off game on Saturday but surely Kebbe and Gypo Hunt have to be the first two on the list...Little on crutches would have been better than both of them yesterday!

Not sure we have the options to drop both wingers do we ?

Tabb on the left Little on the right would be a risk as Little wouldn't make 90 minutes.

A colleague has just told me that Coppell said before the match in an interview on Sky that he didn't think we would win. Is this true? If so, it beggars belief.

Roll on the summer and hopefully a summer sale. S.Hunt should be the first out the door. No heart and little talent. Just a reputation for being commited, and he thinks he's Premiership class. Are you fuk! Sod off!

He didn't think we'd go up Sunday.

Your colleague has the wrong end of the stick.

Yes, he thought that even if we won, Sheff Utd would also win.
Wrong on both counts.

Yes please, but you know it wont happen. Coppell is stupidly loyal to too many of his players, hence why although we wont find a better manager this summer, we need a fresh pair of eyes to come in and perform a clear out.

Henry in for Kebe, you'd have to stick with S.Hunt because of a lack of options (unless Tabb goes left) and I'd even put Mooney on the bench. But Coppell does like LOLong.

Most on Hob Nob have been right about our Leader`s failings this year.... In every Private`s knapsack lies a Field Marshall`s baton.
Sadly this has landed us with a trip to a God forsaken place to get home from on a Saturday evening. However I have noticed a cheap and cheerful late National Express coach that arrives back in London before breakfast. Get in!

I don't think "stupidly loyal" describes it any more. Since Christmas, Coppell has chopped and changed so much, and to so little effect, that many of his players are probably a bit cheesed off with him for having been dropped, and by implication, blamed. They might feel aggrieved after their replacements did no better.

Exactly. That's why the players should take a lot of the hit for our loss of form. Not just Coppell!

Elsewhere on the forum he's being blamed for "not knowing his best team". I think he's been let down badly by a lot of the players, and has only remained nominally loyal where there is little alternative. S Hunt and Kebe are the lucky ones being supposedly benefited by misplaced loyalty at the moment due to Henry being at Millwall and injuries elsewhere in the squad. However, they've both been chopped this season, and with a fit Little and Tabb not covering central midfield so well they probably would have been again.

Doyle on the right?

Actually, Shane Long looked pretty impressive on wide right in the later stages of the game

Agreed. Coppell has at least tried to change things a bit more this time round but he's left himself with a squad full of round pegs for square holes.

The gamble on Little hasn't paid off and that can be no real surprise as he hasn't been fit and able to play on a regular basis for two seasons now. Coppell bought in Tabb in January when we lost Convey. One can only presume that he did so to add some cover and competition to Hunt on the left, even thoug Tabb has seeminly played very little on the wing whilst at Coventry and looks a totally different player when he's played in the middle for us.

Add letting Henry go out on a long loan not having given him much of a chance to impress (allbeit when the team was winning and so more difficult to do so) and our options out wide were:

Hunt - wanted to leave in Jan and not playing anywhere near his limited but often effective limitations
Kebe - enough said
Little - knackered old boy
Tabb - a former winger with little pace turned central midfielder

Is it little wonder we didn't have much to turn to when the wide men lost form?

It's a similar story in the centre of midfield where Harper/Karacan/Cisse have all been much of a muchness, Matejovsky doesn't fit our style of play and Gunnarsson is walking wounded and unable to play a full 90 minutes.
