We are not glory hunters but the facts are that we had the ideal platform to move ahead two years ago after our first Premiership season, but all we did was buy second rate players because they were cheap and that thread has run through the club for a long time now, we have, admitedly got some good bargains but glory be when you are playing in the top league you cant experiment with "maybe good" players, Kebe, Cisse were simply not good enough, and Long should have gone on loan to gain experience, and we should have invested in the teams future not stand , but we didnt, that would have cost money, and when we were struggling, as we did this season, did we strengthen in january No ! Sir JM has always been proud of the fact he got us to the Premiership, but he never vowed to keep us there, we have become a side that wants to do everything on the cheap and we have npw, as last year got, what our investment deserved. Many views at the start of the season mirrored that fact, but were laughed off by the RTG's as furtive gossip and we "would be ok" promises, but the lack of investment in better quality players has again proved our downfall.

This whole 'this was the 3rd/4th/6th/14th best season in our history' stuff is bollocks. Last season was the 'second best season' ever by virtue of what division we happened to be in, and irrespective of us being a steaming pile of turd.

Relegated from the Premier League, and starting the season as one of the title favourites, achieving our '6th best season ever' proved to be piss-easy. We were once again a smoking heap of horse-shit.

Way I see it - 2nd worse season under his stewardship and a run of form post-January that simply has not been shrugged off, no matter how many false dawns we've had (Sheff Weds, Norwich).

Today was a truly disappointing night for me - and I'll tell you exactly when I lost hope.

Having finally picked a team that included none of his favorites with a good smattering of youngsters, and having seen them perform well before the interval, at the first sign of trouble on came 3 of the old guard and off went any chance of getting back in the game.

I've never been so glad not to have been at the Mad Stad as I was tonight and the, frankly, pathetic attendance suggested I was far from alone.
