NO LONGER A RUMOUR - Doyle to Wolves for £6.5m

by Royal Rother » 18 Jun 2009 11:52

Reading Chronicle says:

KEVIN Doyle could be set to follow Marcus Hahnemann to Premier League newboys Wolverhampton Wanderers in a shock £6.5 million move.

The Chronicle can reveal that Wolves boss Mick McCarthy see the talismanic striker as the perfect foil for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake whose 25 goals played a big part in their Championship title-winning success.

Hahnemann, who signed a rolling 12-month contract with Wolves on Wednesday, admits he expects more top players to leave the Madejski Stadium over the summer.

“I think it’s inevitable players will go,” warned the 37-year-old ex-Royals goalkeeper. “They could well move on because I think the club are trying to off load some salaries.”

Yep, he could do a job for Wolves. And it'll mean £6.5m in Madejski's back pocket.

Would be surprised if he went to Wolves, thought he would have set his sights higher ?

I don't think he'd go to B'ham or Burnley, but paired with Ebanks-Blake and being served by Jarvis and Kightly (or better) and he could fancy them doing pretty well.

He's had enough barren spells to put off some of the bigger clubs. Not sure I can really see Villa or Everton wanting to spend enough to get him for what he'd provide and the risk that he won't perform.

Don't care where he goes if we get £6.5m+

"WE" won't get the £6.5 million - so it doesn't really matter what he goes for, if he goes. We'll not have any money in the kitty to replace him. We'll have to make do with NHunt, Long and Mooney and pray they don't get injured.

RL, Jay has become more articulate and stolen your log in.

RFC will get the money and it will benefit the club. RFC WILL bring in a replacement striker if Doyle goes. Entirely correctly that doesn't involve spending £6.5m.

I can't see Wolves paying that. They weren't very brave in the transfer market the last time they were up there, can't see much changing.

We're having to "cut our cloth" again - we'll be lucky if Rodgers gets in excess of £1 million to purchase replacements.

So nothing has become £1m now has it?

You have some very strange ideas.

It's a good price... I just can't see anyone being able to plug the gap he'll leave in the team.

I said we wouldn't get anything out of what we might sell Doyle for. I suspect Rodgers have already been told his budget, irrespective of what players we might sell in the next few weeks.

Maybe we became too reliant on him - sometimes young players need the star to move on before they can truly step up.

There also might have been a tiny bit of "if Kev's not scoring, how can I be expected to..." in there somewhere.

We've got to bring in £11m to "balance the books" and I'd imagine that until we do that, there will be not additional money to spend......

So if Doyle goes for the said fee, we will need to get £4.5m from gypo and Bikey, and id like to think anything surplus will go to Rodgers to spend...but knowing Reading....

M8! The books are more than balanced, and Coppell hinted at that when he left.

If I was Doyle's agent, I'd be trying to sell my client to the Europa League clubs, or those likely to challenge for top 8 next season. IMHO, Fulham would be a good option for all parties - local move, European football, good manager and Doyle's can't be any less effective than Zamora was last season
