Would Doyle be stupid to go to Wolves?

by RFCBoy » 23 Jun 2009 09:52

Kevin Doyle has been linked hugely with a move to wolves for 6.5 million pounds. Would he be stupid to leave Reading for wolves taking into account wolves are most likely to be relegated again next season. I'm not saying he should stay at Reading but surely he can find a bigger and better club than Wolves.

he probably could but I'd imagine he'll want to get it sorted sooner rather than later and get a good pre-season under his belt.

Its less likely that 'Wolves' is the most important thing from your post and more likely to be '6.5 million'.

These 'bigger' clubs have had 2 years to buy him and no one did, same with Hunt.

If Wolves are the ones putting £6.5million up then I'd take that straight away, Doyle was outstanding before Xmas and then meh after.

People said the same about Stoke last season and they survived comfortably, there is no reason why Wolves can't do the same.

Surely Mick McCarthy is a reason?

Doyle didn't go anywhere as he had no clause in his contract so the club didn't have to sell. The clause was put in when he signed at Xmas. He had stated he wanted to stay at Reading, but also wants PL footie.

I would be surprised if he did go to Wolves. However, he would almost be guaranteed a game every week which would also be a plus side, not sure he would get that with a "Bigger" club.

So what your saying is he did have the clause in during January then?

I think he and the club came to an understanding that he'd see out the season and then take it from there though.

Any move to the Premiership would be a good move for Doyle now. He's done his time with us, and as others have said, it doesn't look like the other clubs are coming knocking on his door right now.

This quite public courtship with Wolves might just be the nudge the likes of Everton or Villa need to put their bids in. If not then Wolves will be a decent club for Doyle to play for, even if it's just to prove his Premiership credentials again and earn that bigger move next summer.

Its a World Cup year which may also have a bearing. In that sense playing week in week out for Wolves may be better than sitting on a bench at Villa or Everton.

Completely and absolutely not - it makes perfect sense for him.

He's obviously jaded here and needs a new challenge and a complete change of scenery - I've been in that situation at work a few times and when it gets to that the only way is to change jobs.

Wolves play in a similar way to us (when we were good), with fast-breaking wingers which is a style which obviously suits KD.

It's a world cup year so he obviously wants to play as much as possible - at one of the "less-established" PL clubs he'd be a bigger fish in a smaller pond, and get far more games than he would at somewhere like Villa or Everton.

Good luck, Kevin, and thanks for everything - but all good times must come to an end.

If Doyler stays - fantastic. The boy is class. *pundit mode off*

If he goes - good for him. The boy is class and deserves it. I think Wolves would be a good move for him.

Make a poll:
Yes
No

See which comes out trumps.

Personally, yes. He could do much better, but it's his decision and if he wants to go to Wolves, then he goes to Wolves.

A good choice for him.

Wolves and Reading - much the same thing really. And about the right level for Doyler.

He simply ain't got a sniff at a top four club - or the moneyed wannabes like Spurs/Citeh. Given his tendancy to be crap for long periods, he'd struggle to hold a place at a club like Everton/Villa. Serious danger of a Shorey like career in the League cup and Euro Jug. Can't be good for the ego.

So, at Wolves he plays for an honest manager, gets a decent wage, gets to play every week and be adored as the main man, and he gets a shot at the World Cup if Oireland makes it. Why on earth wouldn't he go?

And I say £6.5 mil works for us n'all.

He's been great for this club and he seems a genuinely nice guy. I think a part of him will be sad to leave but I think now is the right time for him go - he's still young and deserves to go to a Premiership club, whichever club that may be. I hope he gets his form back.

More worrying for me is the fact that no-one appears to rate SHunt as highly as he himself does and we're going to be lumbered with him this season on a huge salary and with a bad attitude.

Was Seol 'stupid' to move to Reading from Wolves a couple of years ago? I didn't think so, and this appears to be the same situation. But the other way around, like.

Goes to Wolves, scores a bit, they go down, he can move to another club, is in a better situation than kitson who failed to score at Stoke and will now not be in demand, however moves have to be made, Doyle can score in the prem and deserves the chance to do it.

good luck to whichever club he moves to.

Yet more millions in the bank at RFC wonder who signed him??

Although he appears to be a confident person, there might be a concern at the back of his mind that previous team mates who left in order to stay in the Premiership, Shorey, Kitson and Sonko, have all sunk without trace. Wolves would be a better bet for him than hanging around in the hope of a bigger club.

Agree with Royal Lady that the apparent lack of interest in S Hunt is a problem. Offload him for whatever price we can get would be my solution.

Would Doyle be stupid to move to the Premiership? People say he can do better than Wolves. Well last summer, last January and so far this summer nobody better has come in for him. Wolves could well be his best bet. He should at least be first choice there alongside Ebanks-Blake.
