We could be the luckiest fans in the country!

by JR » 14 Aug 2009 21:53

I seriously believe that as a bunch of fans we have more to look forward to over the next 5 years than any other in the country.

Let's look at the mindset of fans in the Premiership:

Big 4 - So much pressure to win the league every year, that over the course of 5 years they will never be happy
Villa/Everton - Depression of failing to break big 4 and having players pouched by Man City
Man City - If the unlikely happens and they win the league, it will never be a completely satisfactory victory and the money will always be blamed
Mid Table Prem - Struggling to break into the top echelon while looking behind worried
Newly promoted prem teams - Target is to finish 17th. Bringing in lots of new players on promotion, to just try and survive.

I think we are so lucky because in the space of a month or so we have the following:

- A manager who is a Reading fan. He will not leave for money or just because the other team is 'bigger'
- In 2 matches we have seen 9 academy players play. Then future is bright and will be based on our youth. Many look promising and they will be given the chance to blossom over the next few years.
- When we get promoted we will not have to spend big on lots of random players as our team will be improving with age
- The formation, tactics and strategy put in place by BR is a big change and is based on a more attractive European style. This will differentiate us from a lot of the Championship and Premiership sides and be exciting to watch.
- As our team will be built on our academy, financially the club will be sustainable.

I am convinced that within 5 years we will be an established Top 6 Premiership side and we will have at least 4 players in the England squad.

thats quite a statement, i agree that everything that is happening is very exciting though.

Just to say that just because BR is a Reading fan does not mean he wont leave us at some point but i see where your coming from.

If he gets to the level where he has the opportunity to go to Chelsea then we'll have probably consolidated a place in Europe.

We've got players representing England at youth level - I don't think we'll have 4 England internationals (although Pearce has got what it takes IMO if he decides to opt for England over Scotland), but the likes of Karacan, Davies and so forth could well represent their countries at full international level so it's hardly complete bollocks.

He stated 4 players in the England squad, so it is complete bollox im afraid. How can you tell pearce has what it takes after less than 30 games in the championship? He seems to be class but has a lot to learn.

Noel whelan also represented england at youth level, julian joachim was described as the next romario in the same youth team.

Might be reaching in a few places, but I've said it before and I'll say it again:

The future's bright,
It's blue and white!

That was as true 7/8 years ago when I left uni and we'd managed a total of about 5 season in the second flight ever. And it's true now. I may have been a year or so out when I bet my big club following mates at uni, that Reading would make the Prem in 5 years (uni 99-02) But I was close enough.

We WILL return. We WILL do it the RIGHT and SUSTAINABLE way and we will prepare better and give staying there a better fist next time.

URRRZZZZ!!!

PS yes I'm pissed, but it doesn't make what I say any less accurate.

Nice positive read, but you can't say BR will remain loyal. He's ambitious. If he feels he's taken us as far as he can, he'll go. Simple as that.
Talk about being a top 6 Premiership side in 5 years in complete nonsense. Best we can hope for is being a yoyo club. We don't have the financial backing to be more than that.

All I mean is that he will be more loyal than anyone else. I agree it won't keep him here forever.

I may be mocked, but we are going to change the success model to an academy based one. The financial backing model is one that makes no business sense (surely we can all agree on that for the vast majority of clubs) and the bubble will burst.
