Team for Sheffield United

by I was there at Elm Park » 19 Aug 2009 10:29

Federici
Rosenior Mills Pearce Bertrand
Cisse
Karacan Tabb
Matejovsky / Davies (Marek if fit)
Hunt Mooney

Subs: Hamer, Church, Long, Harper, Gunnarsson, two from Davies/Matejovksy/Henry/Robson-Kanu/Kebe

I know people will say this lacks width but we've lacked width all calendar year with wingers playing. Anyone who's seen the last two games will know that at the moment playing 4-3-3 makes it too easy for the opposition to isolate our front 3. If the quality is there then there is no reason why you can't play passing football through the middle which is why I've suggested Mooney as he looks like he might be better on the ball than Long. I would prefer Harper over Cisse but against Sheffield United you don't really want to be relying on your central defenders for the sole aerial presence, especially when Mills looked short of fitness yesterday. Imo we need experience and players who will graft at the moment. We saw last year that we haven't got a central midfield pairing that is good enough to cope with two wingers playing alongside them who may not graft and go missing which is why I don't recommend a flat 4-4-2. We need three from Cisse, Karacen, Tabb and Harper to play to add that experience and to make sure that we don't look outnumbered in the centre of the park like against Swansea.

No chance with Armstrong if he's off to see a specialist.

Thats not good news then, seems we have too many unfit and injured at this early stage of the season.

Henry? You're not serious - he looked woeful yesterday! HRK would be a better bet, he at least showed some promise going forward.

Thats the same henry that Millwall loved, cant have become rubbish overnite, needs a chance, or could damage his confidence longer term.

---Davies-------------------------------Tabb---
------------------Matejovsky*------------------
----------------Mooney----Long----------------

Subs: Hamer, Cisse, Henry, Harper, Robson-Kanu, N Hunt, Church

4-4-2 diamond. My guess is that our strikers all prefer having a partner up top, and whilst the diamond may look narrow, both Davies and Tabb can play out wide and both can put in a cross. Mooney looked good at Burton and Long looks better than Church, whilst Hunt isn't fit yet. Karacan does a job at CDM and Matejovsky is a CAM through and through.

*If Matejovsky is unfit, I'd rather have Davies CAM and Robson-Kanu/Henry RW.

My guess is that Henry hasn't adjusted to the 4-3-3 formation very well and prefers playing out wide and crossing, rather than cutting in and shooting. He's more of a winger than a striker.

Although I hate to do it, I will be steaming into Sheff Utd this weekend. I am hoping to pay for a holiday with the easy proceeds.

NO KEBE!!!

HRK has looked better on each occasion he has played this season and preseason, just the end product lacking, where as Kebe lacks in a lot more. Kebe for the bench, play HRK. Please.

Big Foot Kebe > HRK

You know it makesssssssssssssss sense

How does it? Kebe could be a great player. But he isn't improving at all. Half the time he doesn't even seem to know where the ball is or what he's doing with it, and as for end product, hit n miss.

HRK is taking on his marker and beating them, it's just his final ball is lacking, but for a more consistant wide man, he's far better than Kebe right now.

HRK is only favoured over Kebe 'cos he's "1 of the youth team"

Kebe's hardly an all action winger - nor was the great Johnny Salad - but when we don't have the ball he isn't anonymous like HRK.
