What in hell's name will the team be from now on?

by Archie's penalty » 03 Sep 2009 13:38

Well what a transfer window it has been folks. Heaven knows what the team will be against Doncaster.

I'm going for something like this:

Afed

Cummings Mills Pearce Bertrand

Karacan (MRC) Gunnar (MC) Howard (MLC)

Mcanuff (FR) Nhunt (FC) Kebe (FLC)

with:

Hamer (?)
Sigurdsson
Tabb
Rasiak
Cisse
Long
O'Dea.

and some others on the bench - what defenders do we have now and who's going to be our sub keeper? Hamer?

The thing that scares me most when I look at that team is the inexperience of the defence - 19, 23, 21 and 20. Yikes!

Can't believe that O'Dea would have been loaned to us if he isn't even going to appear on the bench!

O'Dea may start at the back. Still young, but with experience in the Champions League. I'd agree with your team, but go with Karacan and Tabb in front of the back 4 with Howard in behind the front 3.

Hamer's been on the bench all season (except cup games !)

Kind of gives a clue there !

Maybe there won;t be such a thing as 'the first team'.

Rodgers is clearly looking for adaptable players and I can see him picking sides week by week to carry out plans for each game.

We are likely to vary our formation much more and probably the personell as well.

It would seem he's now got himself a good sized squad of players he knows and trusts...

Agree with this. I started to sketch out a team, then realised we have a pretty interchangeable bunch. There'll be times when we need the big fella up front, and times when we to swamp the midfield with tacklers, and times when we'll need an extra bit of composure in front of the back four, etc. Horses for courses, and only the standout performers will be guaranteed a place week by week.

Good points you two. We certainly have a lot more options now.

With that in mind, you might as well decide what we'll need to face Doncaster.

No idea, but it's rather exciting after the predictability of the last few years.

Bertrand is about the only one who appears nailed on to start whatever the opposition. (Probably Federici as well for the moment, but Rodgers has rotated (most of) the rest of the youngsters so I wouldn't be gobsmacked to see Hamer get a chance in a League game soon.)

I would think Cummings is likely to start as well, considering that we've shipped out Rosenior and have no other right back of note, apart from Kelly.

Yep, I'll give you that. He must be pretty nailed on as well.
