he was black and forced out

Just two recent/current examples to contradict that - Kalifa Cisse seems to be a bit of a cult hero amongst the hardcore fans, especially away from home. Then there are the likes of John Oster and Stephen Hunt, wingers who were given a lot of stick. Kebe seems to be part of a position-based tradition, rather than a race-based one.
