The Half Way Point

by Harpers So Solid Crew » 09 Nov 2009 08:47

Ok 16 games in, 14 points on the board. 3 points of bottom, but there is only 3 points to 14th and mid table.

It looks like the 3 relegated clubs will come from the bottom 11 now, a gap has opened up, so here are the games to the half way stage, how do nobbers feel it will pan out between now and Boxing Day?

21 Nov Blackpool H
28 Nov Derby A

The only game we have any realistic hope of winning is Derby away. We might get a point against Scunthorpe and Palace at home, but frankly on current form that's about it. So five points realistically.

Checking our historic ecord after 23 games, and assuming The Bodger's team manages to stay around 9th worst in the overall RFC pantheon, history suggests we should have around 22 or 23 points after 23 games, ie we need to somehow get 8 or 9 points just to maintain our record as the 9th worst team in RFC history.

9 points from the next 7 games when we have previously only managed 14 from 16 games?? Still, only 3 wins (doubling our number of wins in the season!! Whichever way you look at it, it seems a forlorn hope.

On the plus side, historically RFC do fare better in teh second halkf of the season.

That's uncanny. Although why on earth you'd want to draw attention to the fact that you are thinking along exactly the same lines as me is a bit of a mystery. :D

Looking at that, we've got no hope if we can't climb out of the bottom 3 by boxing day. The only game on there which I would look upon as "difficult" is Bristol City. A mid table side will capitalise on those fixtures and get a run together. Relegation material won't. A massive 7 games.

well then you'll be pleasantly surprised when he gets one point from those 7 fixtures, a dogged 0-0 at home to scunny and you'll have to reconsider your calls for his head

Mark my guess down as 12 points. All home wins. (I know, I am nuts).

Depends how far you want to go back in history I suppose, but the modern history of the past 2 seasons doesn't give me much cause for optimism.
