He's going to be out for a good few weeks if that is confimed. It's 4-6 weeks with a liquid/very soft diet but the jaw doesn't heal to be strong enough to take an elbow etc for a good 3-4 months after a fracture. You'd normally expect a sportsman to be out for a couple of months at least.

If it is undisplaced (ie fractured but not out of position at all) then it could be a bit quicker.

It's hard to see how any kind of mask will offer the mandible appropriate protection. Depends on where the fracture is I suppose.

According to Hood on Reading Player a member Reading staff decked him just after the half time whistle. Can't wait to see if the FA take action against us, I can imagine the video evidence becoming a huge hit on youtube.

Possibly, but he will either be wired up or it will be left alone to heal. The other issue is possible cracked teeth. Oh and ithurts like a bitch.

had yours done a while ago then Rex

it's all open reduction and internal fixation nowadays, ie screwing little titanium meccano pieces into the bone then sewing the soft tissues back over the top. Normally no jaws wired shut unless it's a complete clusterfcuk eg very unfavourable fractures after a high speed rta. Better because we used to have to issue patients with wirecutters in case they vommed, which would be a bit dangerous if the jaws were wired closed and they were left to try to hose the bits out through the gaps in their teeth.

Yep. I broke the right side of the jaw and the front was broken in two places. It was a class punch TBF.
I'm glad things have moved forward now BR. My jaw slightly shifted when it healed.
