Where were we when Pards became manager?

by FozzieMcgregor » 19 Dec 2009 02:32

I'm having a tough time finding this out and I surely don't remember myself - does anyone know exactly where we were in Division 2 (as was) when Pardew took over on a full time basis? I know we were languishing down the bottom but could do with knowing the actual league position.

All I can say is his first match (caretaker or otherwise) was a 1-0 over Chesterfield at the Madejski.

I don't know why I remember that, but I do.

It was earlier in the season. My worry comparing McDermott with Pardew is that we got significantly worse before we got better when Pards first took over. He proved to be an excellent manager, but we don't have time to get worse this season. We need a manager who can hit the ground running a bit more.

He officially took over on 13th Oct.

09 October 1999 Stoke (Away) L: 1-2
16 October 1999 Wigan (HOME) L: 0-2
20 October 1999 Bury (HOME) W: 2-0

By that point we'd amassed 8 points and were 1 point off the relegation zone. Probably 21st.

2 2 6 15 22 -7

Some sort of analogy going on here?

But he was made caretaker on 16th September and his first game in charge was the 1-0 win at home to Chesterfield (Caskey scored I believe).

As I recall we were esconced in 23rd place at the time of the game and that win dragged us out of the bottom 4... we then avoided dropping back in until the start of December but stayed in the bottom 4 until more or less the end of January.

I thought his first match in charge full time was the 10 home win over CHesterfield on 18/09/99, having been appointed 2 days before.

Prior to Chesterfield game, the league table looked like this:

Fantastic, thanks guys.

Strap, is that a publicly available website? If memory serves you have your own Database of Reading stats, so was wondering if it's out in the wild for us mortals?

We were deeply in the doo-doo when Pardew took over.
