West Brom in the FA Cup

by nev monkey » 24 Jan 2010 23:37

Just been on the West Brom forums & they are already wondering who they are going to get in the quarter finals. Arrogant f@ckers never liked them!! Although they may have a point....

Well they certainly stuffed us at the Hawthorns in October but that was pre BM so maybe they will be lulled into complacency and there is no reason why we cannot beat them if we play as well as in the previous rounds.

Well give us a premiership team and we can beat them. On the other hand, championship teams...

Really crap draw for both clubs, about as exciting as an afternoon watching paint drying.

For the record I don't think we've won a 5th Round tie since 1929 or something, mind you we've only made the 5th Round about 4 times since then and that includes a 63 year gap between a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal in 1935 and a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United in 1998.

Now if we were to win the game then get the winners of Southampton or Portsmouth at home we'd have a real cup run on our hands and a chance of getting to Wembley, albeit only for a semi-final.

Still rather stuff WBA in the league though...

No, but in Griffin we do have a right back that might be able to do something about Jerome Thomas, unlike Short Cummings at the Hawthorns. So that is at least one step forward.

I fear, that whilst a little arrogant, their fans are entirely correct to assume they'll go past us.

A winning one.

I meant, did they have a reserve team out or was it full of first teamers?

WBA's team on Saturday:

Carson, Olsson, Cech, Tamas, Jara, Koren, Brunt, Thomas, Dorrans, Mulunbu, Bednar

Their team against Newcastle the previous Monday:

Carson, Olsson, Cech, Tamas, Jara, Koren, Brunt, Thomas, Dorrans, Mulunbu, Bednar

Exaclty the same.

Hopefully Forest will keep up their good run and Newcastle can get pegged back so they take their eye off the ball in the cup.

So you consider watching a game that, if we win, takes us further in the FA Cup than we've been in over 80 years "about as exciting an afternoon as watching paint dry"?

I doesn't matter who the opposition is, it's a big game.

Exactly!

I don't think the first league game can really be used as a comparison. Cumming's hopefully won't even be in the county on the 13th, and obviously BR isn't around. McAnuff who was responsible for one of their goals, is in good form, and Gylfi is absolutely flying!

If we get some results in the next 4 games, I'll be confident.

I was hoping for another Premiership side, preferably Chelsea, so we could get knocked out and concentrate on the league, but West Brom is good enough.

This is a massive game. For once the occasion should mean a sell out rather than the team.

A shame that you feel like that. I am hoping for a sensible pricing policy of no more than £15 a throw for any ticket at any time, 4,000 Baggies and a decent crowd and atmosphere and there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't turn them over at home. We also have some good FA Cup previous against them in recent times. I am certainly looking forward to this fixture more than any league match in the forseeable future anyway :| .
