Who still wants Madejski to sell?

by West_Reading » 14 Feb 2010 21:20

I was just wondering after the week that's just past and the number of clubs facing winding up orders, who still wants Madejski to sell up to the closest 'Arab billionaire'? I've said it before, I think we've spent a lot of money recently for a club in our position and I for one am grateful to have SJM.

Happily his Madj will only sign over to someone he thinks has the best interests of the club and community at heart and won't mortgage our future then bugger off bored after a few years having not bought instant success.

Yep agree Ian. Countless times SJM has indicated this. Also the club will be left in a supposedly solid financial state up until that point.

I don't want the club in the hands of anyone who does not have it's best interests at heart or who isn't prepared to ensure it is run in a reasonably sensible way.
I'm not sure it would be easy to find someone at this time who gets closer to the ideal than SJM, despite his imperfections.

RFC fans are a fickle lot.....fortunately the club's got a good atmosphere around it ATM, thanks to BMc and his band of warriors, hence SJM is loved by most.

Madejski hasn't got the slightest intention of selling for at least 5 years as the club gives him the media spotlight his inferiority complex has always craved.

As Ian says though, SJM wont sell to just anybody and he wont put at risk all his hard work by selling to someone who wont look after it. Because of that I would still be ok with him selling it, although personally I hope he never sells it as I think he does a great job

One thing he said the other week on the radio was that if and when he does sell he was quite in favour of staying on in some capacity. I like that idea too

For the club's sake I hope he stays as long as possible. From his point of view maybe he should already have gone. Someone (A Sugar?) said "the only good football chairmen are the ones who got out before the fans turned on them".

When a club's Chairman has a higher profile than the players something is badly wrong.

I've never been comfortable with the thought of a Chairman who would speak so openly about selling. It's up there with saying you'd like to divorce your wife in her company when out with friends! Or have I missed something here?

I'm actually starting to come round to JM's way of thinking regarding investment in the club, (and i know that i am going to get a lot of stick for this) But if you look at the state of various clubs right now, cardiff, pompey, pallace, county, glasgow rangers ect that we know of, plus all the clubs that the financial situation has not got media interest, but are still in deep crap. Perhaps it is in our best interests to weather the storm for the time being while all these clubs sink, rather than over invest and end up in the same situation, because although we are all deeply pasionate about our club and want the big time, we are a small team with comparitively little support and as such does not receive the gate revenue/shirt sales of the likes of derby county or even forrest. Although I would love to see a return of the premiership i would not like to see it happen at the expence of the future of the club should the investment not work out as with Leeds. I suppose at the end of the day, all i am trying to say is JM did not make a ton of cash by making bad investment decisions.

Well,it depends. If he is selling to a million/billion-aire, at least sell it to someone who will love it and invest significantly every year instead of other owners of other clubs who use it as a 'trophy'. If Madejski is unable to find such a buyer, I say he should stay for the time being.

Define "invest" - "invest" as in lending us lots of money that stays around as debt, or "invest" as in us large sums of money.

People who'll do that latter are like rocking-horse droppings - people who'll do the former are extremely dangerous. How do you ensure you know the difference from the start?

Well, someone with a good reputation I suppose. Someone like Abramovich or David Gold?

I doubt if we would be considered a trophy, maybe the Johnston Paints, but not the FA cup. I do think that Mr M loves having the club, as it does feed his ego, not saying thats a bad thing its just a thing. Agree with many others I would rather be in our financial position than many many other clubs.

The great thing about SJM is that he is a BUSINESS MAN, he does actually know what he is doing with money and companies. Auto-Trader is huge now and was when he sold it. Selling it to another business man would make sense i.e. Branson but just to sell it to some rich bugger who may have just discovered some oil (which pretty much sells itself) would be a bad thing. I have said this all along.
