Maidstone v Reading FA Cup 1988. Great viewing to warm up for what could be our best cup night in, literally, generations. Its worth viewing just for the intro!

That was a great night. I nearly got arrested for spraying the cameraman on our side of the pitch with silly string.

Reading 1-1 Cardiff AET (Reading win on penalties).

I remember only the following of this game...

- Significant exchange of pleasantries with the away fans before and during the game, police cameras, fans climbing railings, bottles and coins thrown.
- The South Bank crowd surge, not a greater feeling in the world of football.
- The whole of the packed South Bank crowding into two-thirds of the South Bank to watch our winning shoot-out at the Tilehurst End.

- But moreover, perhaps the best goalkeeping display I've ever witnessed, a certain Nick Hammond producing world-class stop after world-class stop, even using his go-gadget arms to tip away a top-corner bound shot after the referee had blown for offside.

Not too many happy FA cup memories to choose from but Lita's hatrick against West Brom after being 2-0 down was pretty special.

Cardiffs goal brought scenes on the terrace like you will never see again. Total Carnage. The biggest mentaller ive ever seen anyway.

 I fancy an 80s revival.

FA Cup nostalgia: 3-3 draw at Slough, running battle on terraces, 2 Slough goals in injury time, my first ever away game. Match of the Day footage now - sadly - not available on Youtube.

I went to Eddie Izzard that evening on a first date after the match and much the worst for wear with drink. It's the closest I've come to literally pissing myself. I came away thinking the date had gone significantly better than it actually had.

Recall a bloke who looked like Jesus from the New Inn at Slough that day having a p*ss while stood up on the fence at the back of the 'terrace'.

Bit lively in the car park afterwards. People getting slapped over bonnets and the like.

We had some Scottish nerd that McGhee had signed, can't remember his name now but he was mulleted-up, warming up on the line while Slough staged their comeback. Neil someone?

Great day out.

Just a quick query. The club badge shown on the screen behind Steve Ryder seems to be the one we had in our Elm Park Centenary season, 1997/98 I think. I remember us having the shield type emblem when I first started supporting in 1995 with the three stripes. So does that mean we only had that shield emblem for a little while somewhere between 1988 and 1997?

We had the Three Elms badge on our shirts from 1981 to 1983; the shield badge - designed by Ian Branfoot's daughter(?) - from 1987 to 1996; the Elm Park centenary badge from 1996 to 1998 and the current badge from 1998 to date. The club had a single 'R' badge on the shirts for the 53-54 season and I seem to remember the Five Maidens on the sky blue shirts at some point in the 60s.

Away to Halifax in the Cp in late '99.

Absolutely pissing it down so the match was played on mud, and we went through after Scott Howie saved a last minute penalty.

Highlight of the game - the plastic garden furniture that were carried out to the side of the pitch to make up the "bench" slowing and imperceptibly sinking into the mud as they were sat on, so that those sitting in them realised after 10 minutes that their knees were higher than their backsides,,,,,

Barry Town in 1983.

Nearly lynched and missed Senior's equaliser trying to avoid a hiding. Particularly remember one old woman in a wheelchair shouting "Kill the English bastards".

Happy days.

4-2 v Hendon at Elm Park early 90's inspired by a genius display from 'The future of football' Les 'The new Alan Ball' Taylor.

Loads of Tottenham turned up with them and kicked off in the away end, the police brilliantly brought the ones they nicked out through the back of the Southbank and they took an absolute pasting - hilarious.

No particularly fond memories of the FA Cup tbh.

Low points were prolly going to York twice in two seasons (?) - threw a 2-0 lead away the first time and lost 2-0 the second and it was freezing.

Highlights - Liverpool, West Brom, err, yeah not a lot really.
