Don't think anyone who was there knew. Too busy celebrating. It went totally mental. Can't be arsed to start back from the game thread but we were pretty shit for the entire 2nd half but then played well in extra time. Kebe was probably our best player.

From what I gather:

Perfectly fair win by us. Our players go to the Reading crowd in good spirit to applaud them and celebrate. Bad losing troglodite monkies of stewards decide that because they don't like it that we won they won't let us celebrate and got in the way. Somewhere in the mayhem it seems Umbungo Umbulumbu and McAnuff threw handbags at eachother (McAnuff obviously really angry that his side just made history and clearly looking for a fight so he clearly started it ) McAnuff for some reason gets the red even though by eye witness accounts he was grabbed first.

Absolutely despicable behaviour by West Badloser Albion and if there isn't a fine for their misconduct and a reversal of the red card I will be fuming.

If, that is, video replay supports the impression I got and I'm not a victim of some biased reporting. Can't for the life of me think why we should be banned from celebrating or why McAnuff would want to be the instigator of trouble though...

The stewards appeared to jostle the Reading players and further manhandled them as they attempted to make their way over to the Smethwick End to celebrate with their fans. Mason confirmed that McAnuff had been dismissed for violent conduct.

After the final whistle at the Hawthorns, the Royals player wanted to celebrate the famous win with the travelling fans but some job's worth stewards had other idea's. They came onto the pitch and attempted to stop the players heading towards the away end with some choosing to man handle players away.

Somewhere in all of this Jobi McAnuff was sent off, but no one seems to have a clue why. The two strongest rumours as to why he was dismissed are foul and abusive language, or violent conduct. Both meaning he is likely to miss the quarter final meeting with Aston Villa, unless the Royals choose to appeal.

The whole situation was totally ridiculous and there was no need for the stewards to stop the players celebrating a great win. Its not like they were going to cause any trouble and certain stewards should never be allowed to work again following their actions.

I hope a full enquiry will take place into the scenes that followed the game, and if the FA have any sense they will overturn the red card given to McAnuff.

It sounds like he punched somebody and got seen by the linesman, You usually get sent off for that. End of story for him, maybe, and he'll serve the three-match ban.

But, the simpleton on BBCRB was going mental at the stewards behaviour afterwards: perhaps there will be an enquiry into that.

I couldn't find anyone who saw the whole incident leading to Jobi's red card but from the partial accounts of three different people Jobi went across to shake hands with one of the West Brom players who kicked the ball at him. Jobi retaliated by pushing him. The referee didn't see the incident as he was shaking hands with some of the players but unfortunately the assistant called the referee over and then the ref produced the red card. No action was taken against the West Brom player.

Not having seen the incident myself I cannot swear to the reliability of this version of events but think the truth may be in there somewhere.

Being that no-one seems to know what happened for mcanuffs red card I cant see it being rescinded/appealed .

I'm interested to know where the truth lies with this one - there seem to be some wildly different stories doing the rounds. However, Jobi doesn't seem to be a naturally "angry" player so I imagine there was some provocation involved

According to West Brom fans it was the McAnuff/Mulumbu incident that kicked it all off. McAnuff went to shake Mulumbu's hand, Mulumbu kicked the ball at him, McAnuff retaliates, steward comes over to seperate them, more Reading players get involved, more stewards get involved, ref gets involved, etc, etc......

So the initial offender gets away with nothing.......

Hopefully it was all caught on camera and he gets charged, along with West Brom. However I can see us getting charged with "failing to control our players"........

Somemone in the ground told me they saw McAnuff spit at someone. He got the red card before it all kicked off, not during.

I reckon it will do us more good tham harm, Mcanuffs not been palaying that well anyway and the whole incident will only strengthen the teams resolve.

West Brom fans view:

The stewards were not on the pitch to stop the Reading players celebrating that had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Immediately after the final whistle there was an altercation between McAnuff and Mulumbu. McAnuff raised his hands to Mulumbu and the assistant saw it told the ref and sent him off for Violent Conduct.
Mass brawl so stewards go involved to break it up because the Reading players were furious. McAnuff went after the assistant so they stopped that.

A coach of some sort from the Reading bench came sprinting from the bench to square up to the officials. and the stewards were trying to stop this.

Reading players were angry and the stewards were trying to stop a fight that is all! Not to stop the reading fans from celebrating.

Agreed WR, and if McAnuff has swung at anyone then I can't see how we can have any ground to appeal unfortunately.
