Not only a great chant, but also winner of the coveted 'Best Newcomer' category in the OAE* mongboard awards 2007/08.

*R.I.P. in peace.

Ray, what are your first memories of watching the Royals?
I remember first starting to watch Reading when I was about four years old. In those days I'd get to the ground late and people would just pass me down over their heads towards the front.

never heard that one before.

Favourtie time you were chinned in the Royals Rendezvous?

Seriously though, someone who has dedicated a lot of his time and effort in to RFC, so I wish him nothing but the best.

45 years without smiling is a hell of a track record mind you.....

Agree he's been a bit of a club stalwart.

Just what was the history behind that chant, out of interest? I've always wondered...

I remember Ray from away trips in the 80's on the coach he and Denny always made sure we were there before the kick off. Usually about 5 hours before! As the previous knobber mentioned has anyone ever seen him smile? Happy retirement Ray

:D Nice one. I remember one we were so early, we got there and the game from last week was just finishing. We had just seen us beat Hereford away.

Sadly, he has decided not to retire from my drinking gang, i still owe him a tenner for betting me that Reading would finish above QPR, this was when we were 4th and Reading were 2nd from bottom, now that's a loyal royal.

Not condoning violent behaviour but he is responsible for THE best comedy moment in the Rendezvous. After the Port Vale, 3-0 up - drew 3-3 game, at Easter of the 93/94 season, remember it as if it was yesterday.

The memory sadly might reduce Ray to a different sort of tears.

Could well be because the only time he did smile he was assaulted for it by another RFC fan! Please cross refer with Rendezvous comments......

Gutted. Ray and his clipboard could often be seen at the base of the Southbank as the various sets of visiting spastics tried to get at Reading's able p*ss-takers. Or throw pies at them. Or something.

In latter days he has taken on the look of the 'faded toucher' when he has been spotted around the town.

For that and other reasons I agree that 'Arrest' was one of a kind.

Undoubtedly Reading's favourite Fan's Verdict contributor. (Closely followed by M Pitman, obviously)
