by LoyalRoyal13 » 04 May 2007 13:59

I was just wondering if STAR had any plans to organise a trip to Korea for the Peace cup...?

Would you mind doing a pick-up and drop off in Finland for me?

Hope they remember to not the roadworks that are due to start on the Mongolia by-pass in mid June (plus the Tajikistan Freeway won't be finished in time so Horsemans will have to re-route via Afghanistan).

They'll be chartering a Lancaster. Denny's piloting. No Station Hill pick-up though. Bast*rds. What about people who live in Caversham?

How would they have plans to travel to an event in which we don;t know where or when we will be playing

Give them a chance to have heard some details before they decide...

But I can't really see there being the need for an 'official' supporters trip.

I guess that depends on how many supporters are interested in going.

And how many different permutations they want !
Some people will want to take in just the Royals games, some as many other games as possible, some just one game. Some will want to do sightseeing, some will want 5 * hotels and others will want to do it on the cheap.

I can't see how STAR would be able / want to put a package together - they didn;t for Sweden and Korea would be much more complicated.

They may be able to liase with the supporters trusts of any other British teams that enter the tournament, At least to see if there's any good advice to our fans.... like don't go!

Further to the original question. Now the fixtures have been anounced, are there any plans for talks regarding a STAR-organised trip?

Although it is a nice idea, organising a trip to Korea is beyond our
scope, we know of several people who intend to go but are making their own travel arrangements. At the end of the day we are all volunteers with a living to earn, had we have qualified for Europe we would have looked at what other clubs involved did regarding travel, but at best would have acted only as facilitators of information not organisers of travel arrangements itself. We did however, look at the possibility of taking a coach to Cork if the opportunity had arisen.

Having said that - I'm talking to a guy at the Korean National Tourist Board and he's going to send me details of travel companies who will offer a discount for Royals fans going out together, or who will organise trips for people.

When I have the info I'll publish it here.

As promised yesterday, attached below is what I've just been sent by a travel agency who specialise in such things - for instance they did travel for Spurs fans a few years ago when they played in the Peace Cup. This is, of course, a sample itinerary but hopefully gives an idea - there are also options to reduce price by downgrading hotels, etc.

Please note, this is not being organised by STAR - we are acting as coordinators for this, and so will put you directly in touch with the travel agent. We have no financial involvement with the agency - but I believe it's part of our role to put supporters in touch with the specialists for this sort of trip.
