Stewards & away coaches leaving the stadium

by royal goof » 12 Sep 2006 09:44

In an attempt to get the away coaches on their way, stewards were forcing all supporters to walk in the road....not onto the footpath!!

Then as they let the coaches go - you guessed it - they drive down the road, motoring past the pedestrians.

In hours of darkness and with small children amongst the fans I (and many others that were present last night) consider this to be a dangerous situation.

If STAR agrees, please could you approach the club to try and agree a more acceptable exit strategy for fans & coaches, particularly with the winter months approaching and big crowds at every game.

As a bus user I have no problem waiting a bit longer, Most of us get the bus for comfort and convienience not speed.... although we should still leave before the cars

Perhaps that they have some actually important things to worry about?

My point about our supporters coaches making sure there is no missing kick off at away games, for example and more pick up points, I feel are far more important.

This is important though, the danger of a death is much more important than e few people missing half a football game, which was not the fault of STAR or the operator, but due to traffic conditions.

This all comes back to the fundamental problem that the stadium was built for cars, not pedestrians. The current system of barriers and stewards is a complete dogs breakfast.

I still can't believe a pavement hasn't been built round the mini roundabout opposite the megastore. Fans walking up the B&Q slope before a game are faced with an abruptly shorted pavement and have to walk across the roundabout with cars and buses coming in both directions.

the road in front of the Stadium should be buses only, the car parks can be filled from the access roads at the ends, easy, if you enter from B&Q end you leave from that end, and vice versa, this was suggested via STAR a long time ago, but seems to have been ignored.

The stadium was initialy designed with a seperate, pedestrian-only exit route - if you remember the steps down the slope!

That lasted only a couple of matches, for obvious reasons, but that means that since then pedestrians and vehicles have shared that way out. There clearly needs to be some way to seperate the two, since the standard of driving (the level of patience and consideration) seems to be getting worse all the time, and I agree that it's inevitable that soon there will be an accident.

The 17 Bus danger of a death.

Common sense, simple common sense. Death is a ridiculous assumption. If you see a bus you move. I find it laughable that this is a serious concern of yours. Nanny state indeed...

If you see a bus and can't move due to sheer crowd numbers you may have a problem, epecially with the bus driver having so much to contend with - pedestrians everywhere, passengers standing all the way up to the front doors etc.

Alot of people get killed each year crossing the road, If they saw the vehicles comming and could get out of the way don't you think the vast majority would have?

To be fair, the fans should be responsible and walk on the path, especially those with young kids in tow.

I agree that fans should be responsible, however the Stewards are directing fans to walk on the road and leaving the footway empty!!

When you try and get past them to get to the footway they try and stop you and tell u to get back on the road...........

Are you insinuating that a bus in going to drive full steam ahead int a crowd of people?

That was me and I nearly was, but I am just a bit baffled to find a fear of death from a slow moving supporters coach on here...

It just seems to be one of those occassions where stewards are adiring to guidlines or whatever (something like make home fans leave on the road and allow the away fans on the pavement) without any thought of basic common sense...

Still no comment from STAR? Either you agree with the concern or you don't. If you do can you raise it with the club?

Any aspect with the club that could have health & safety implications should be taken seriously by the supporters club..

Kids have eyes in the back of their heads do they?! Death is by no means a ridiculous assumption if you go under the wheel of a bus.

My daughter nearly got hit by one last season and was only saved by the fact that my son realised what was happening and yanked her out of the way.

Which is exactly what Guardian's should do in situations like this, then the danger is reduced dramatically.

Having been in a road accident, I find it strong that people want further things changed to make sure that something unlikely of happening will ever happen.

Can we have the statistics of all serious accidents involving buses in the 7 years of our stadium please? Thanks.

So you would rather wait for one to happen so that there can be a statistic?

People have identified a problem where the safety of supporters is in question, but because you don't see a problem you think nothing should be done about it.

Good thinking.

So you think all kinds of laws should be imposed on society to prevent unlikely things happening just because 'they might'?

I wish people like you ran this country.

Ooops, they do...
