Free Travel to an away game.

by Row Z Royal » 13 Jan 2007 19:45

Well-informed rumour about the possibilty of free STAR coaches to one of the longer-distance away games.

Sounds like a great idea to me, especially to somewhere crap like Middlesborough.

My thoughts turn to Blackburn away on the last day. Looks like the sort of game that won't have anything resting on it and likely to have a poor away support. Gets my vote anyway.

Your thoughts?

If it was a relegation decider and the fans being there was going to make a positive difference and free travel was the only way to get fans to buy tickets then it may make business sense, or if good PR was required to get fans on side.

Neither likely.

What has Madejski got to do with it? Does he subsidise the travel to every other game?

STAR has the contract and commercial arrangement with Horsemans - nothing to do with RFC or John Madejski.

Well, this is the first I have heard of your well informed rumour, but I will confirm the above information that Away Travel is run by STAR. The contract is between STAR and Horseman coaches and has nothing at all to do with RFC Or John Madejski.

Mr Madejski could, however, if he so wished, tell Star and Horseman Coaches that he would like to pay for Star supporters to attend a certain trip, could he not? NOt that it would ever happen of course!

LOL. Must be a well-informed idea that has yet to be suggested.

Shame that idea wasn't implemented in time for Everton as the rumour-monger suggested to me.

Please advise your "informant" that any decisions regarding travel will be announced by STAR not by rumour, innuendo or plain wishful thinking by third parties.

Mr STAR Travel is on his way to Everton with his convoy of coaches. I also went to STAR HQ at 5.00am this morning to help with administation and to wave them off. I do go away to games, but today I am working at home. I will be at the Mad Stad to meet the coaches on their return and to collect coach lists. I hope that helps. :)

Perhaps it's someone other than STAR who is alledgedly rumoured to be organising free away match travel?

The fans are singing the praises of the current team, manager, chairman etc etc and all away games will sell their ticket allocation..... So why would they need to carry out a PR exercise by offering free travel?

Aston Villa did this recently, But that was the new Chairman winning the fans over.
