Flowers to Liverpool

by Forbury Lion » 24 Aug 2007 10:37

A Hobnober without access to hobnob has texted me asking if I can put a suggestion on here.

The suggestion is that STAR send some flowers to Liverpool in respect of the young lad who was shot in the head as he made his way home from the game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hadn't he been playing football, rather than being at a match?

Why no suggestion to send flowers to Walsall in memory of their academy player who died while training with them? Seems just as valid to me.

No idea, I didn't read the thread and don't read newspapers either.

As Forbes said I asked him to post the suggestion, the lad that died was a ST holder at Everton, as is his father and his brother, therefore they are football supporters, and STAR is a Supporters organisation, hence me asking Forbes to post it as I was away on business.

I felt it might be a nice thing for STAR to do, shame that others seem to think otherwise, and feel the urge to bellitle it.

Someone could have suggested flowers for the Walsall player, but they did not, had they I would not have belittled the idea, and would hope that the idea would have been taken up..

My txt to Forbes did not suggest he was returning from a game, and has been misquoted, no blame to FL for that, shame others need to nit pick..

Lets hope no one one here loses a life so needlessly, and that should they then they get sympathy and support.

oxf*rd you that made this thread look like it is some kind of joke and worthless.

It has not been a good week at all for football has it?

Personally I do not think that sending flowers is the right approach in such situations but am willing to be outvoted by the rest of the Board, but so far I do not sense an overwhelming desire for it.

Our usual way is to send a message of condolence, although we did lay a wreath at the Hillsborough memorial but that is (I sincerely hope) in a class of it own.

I personally feel we should send a wreath to QPR for their player who died on Saturday. Apparently had the potential to be something big and had quite a few clubs watching him.

Not to be unsensitive to your view but that makes it sound that if he'd apparently been crap it wouldn't have mattered.

By all means send something personally but I don't feel it's something that as an supporters association should be done, in either case.

If your going to send a reef to QPR, then you might aswell send one to Walsall for the death of Anton Reid, a 16 year old kid who had a heart attack last week. A card of condolence to both players on behalf of STAR is adequate, nothing more.
