Will BBCRB Cover the 2007/8 season?

by bb0118 » 17 Jun 2007 10:41

After last seasons fiasco, do you guys have the rights this coming season?

If so, was this from last years contract or have you had to renew? And if thats the case, did you pay the same or have RFC increased the price?

So we'll take that as a yes then.

By the way anyone know what happens to BBC Berks Sports presenters in the close season...?

I think 'other sports' come into it . Not just football y'know! And of course read HNA avidly.

Yes I heard Tim desperately trying to make Ascot week interesting! Will there be live boating from the Henley Regatta?

Indeed there will, although not so much commentary as live bulletins from the course with updates on the day's events.

But, like Henley Rugby Club, the regatta is not in berkshire. Surely one for your colleagues in Oxfordshire to deal with?

That's, obviously, a very narrow way of looking at it. It's on the border of the county and a lot of people who live in Berkshire will either be going, or taking part. Reading's away games aren't in Berkshire but are still worth covering, because people from Berkshire will be involved and interested!

Henley's also in our patch/transmission area as decided by... well, whoever decides these things (not us). Transmitter coverage tends not to respect county boundaries, which is why we're the designated station for parts of South Oxfordshire and also North Hampshire.

We actually don't go to Henley rugby club enough - they had a cracking season last year, nearly got promoted to National One.

Ollie

While we've got your attention are you able to reveal to us the level of coverage you will be providing for Reading's sojourn into South Korea over the coming weeks?

Will it be every game live or just match summaries in the sports desks or something in between?

While you're there will all the pre-season games for the 1st team squad be live as well or just the Wolves one?

I'll have to check, I'm technically on holiday at the moment (living it up on the Costa Del HNA for two weeks) so can't immediately find out. My understanding is there's definitely commentary involved. I'll find out and let you know, ditto pre-season games.

Ollie - if you ever want a guest presenter to fill in for the more boring bits of a game, I'm free. That is all.

So you're asking whether Ollie wants to fill in a guest presenter when the going gets quiet?

To be pedantic, Henley is in Oxon, but the regatta is in Remenham, Berkshire. One of the two racing lanes is in Berkshire (the other in Bucks until all but the last yards), plus all of the official enclosures, the crew areas and the boat houses as it is all on the south side of the river. In fact it's almost entirely a Berkshire event.

Just out of interest - and I realise I'm asking a bunch of football fans so this won't be the most scientific survey ever - what's the appetite for more coverage of local rugby teams like Henley and Newbury, or even the likes of Reading, Bracknell etc?

And for that matter, do lots of you follow non-league football (e.g. Maidenhead, Basingstoke) closely? Any other sports you'd like to see/hear more about?

You can always drop me a line - oliver.williams@bbc.co.uk - if you've got a decent sports story involving your local team or a sport you think we might be overlooking.
