Swansea commentary a disgrace

by Super Kevin Bremner! » 28 Aug 2007 20:07

Which commentator was the one constantly whinging about 'having to go all the way to Swansea' to commentate on a 'Nothing' game?

If you don't like it mate hand your notice in and do something else. There's plenty of people about who wouldn't be moaning about being paid to watch football.

I tuned in to listen to the game, not some fool constantly creating because he might have to travel back late after penalities or extra time.

I hope it goes the distance now.

Anyone know if I can make a formal complaint against this utter joke?

It's Joel, and he's a prick. He should be on the "I hate premiership football" thread. (the one started by Shades)

It's called banter, but seeing as you're devoid of wit and personality you wouldn't appreciate it.

It's called very very poor quality, and is known as "local".
E.g. Local radio, local news.

I agree though that they could EASILY find somebody less inane.

There was a time when the letters BBC actually stood for quality.
Tonight surprised me, because it was actually worse than before, and I already thought it was very, very poor.
It's difficult to start to describe how bad it is because it is all so bad but I will try:
1) Banter between the two of you is so inane - stop it, only you find it funny.
2) I don't care who players played for 5 years ago.
3) I'm listening on the radio - I didn't drive to the game! I don't care how bad the traffic was for someone who is paid to go there. Get it?
4) Your food is only interesting to you - most people learn this by the age of 5.
5) Please try and commentate about the football - I get more acurate and up to date information from the newspapers. Good commentry is not "Well Joel how is your pie ....? GOAL!!!!"

Err... you do have a choice of radio stations... nobody is forcing you to listen. BBC Berks is usually pretty funny/witty to listen to and 1000000x better than the sheer tripe that is Reading107

Given the absolutely dire game that was on offer there isn't really much else to do except go into banter mode, there's only so many times you can say the ref's having a shocker or that Swansea couldn't hit a barn door with a small traction engine.

BBC Berks normally are excellent in their coverage and commentaries so long may it continue.

Unless your eating a bounty bar in which case we really must know whether it's red or blue.

Bounties should be chocolate coloured - If your Bounty is Red or Blue, beware.

I think when you are commentating on the same team week in week out, often twice a week, and you get a real bummer of a game, there's not much else to do but tell it as it is, and have a bit of a laugh about it.

However I do believe that a commentary should paint a picture for the listener's mind's eye so that we know where the ball is at most, if not all, times, and that really wasn't the case last night.

Too many times I thought we had the ball deep in Swansea's half only to suddenly be told that Scotland was having a shot.

But for the 2 of them to keep up a constant detailed match commentary for 120 minutes of largely crap football when supported by the limited comforts provided by the unique way in which the BBC is funded is probably expecting too much...

Well, that wasn't very nice was it? Why laugh at people who spent hard earned money to get there?

I used to listen to the games via BBCRB while I was at the games sometimes and they (well, Joel mostly) were often moaning about how bad a game was when I couldn't work out if they were at the same game as me. And btw, sitting in traffic for 6 hours doesn't make a bad game, sitting in the pissing rain doesn't make a bad game, sitting and freezing your nuts off with really bad coffee doesn't make a bad game. We don't care about that stuff. Talk about the football (or bounties)! From my experience of listening to games while being at them I noticed a lot of decent play that simply wasn't being commented on due to the 'banter' and that frustrated me because i knew that meant that they were doing it to games that I WASN'T present at and so how much good play had I missed when the only way of finding out what was going on was to listen to them?

Most people I know have stopped listening to BBC Berks altogether because of the utter lack of quality and general poor attitude shown by the presenters. It is patently obvious to any listener that the pair of them are in a (real or imaginary) 'comfort zone' where they no longer feel the need to provide the quality service that the fans of the club deserve.

Poor show, BBC.
