I'd prefer to be row V or Z than row A.

There is a pillar in the middle of the stand, so maybe a row near the front is not so bad.

I don't mind being in row A if the people behind me don't mind me standing.

I don't particulary care where I sit if the result ends up the same as last time I went to the Valley in 1994. Charlton 1 Reading 2. Gilkesy was frightenly quick that day and fulfilled my prophesy by scoring.

I had been boasting before the game to some Charlton S/T that the man himself would do the business.

Warning about standing up at Charlton, the stewards like most other clubs have a bad reputation amongst away fans but I suppose whether the majority stand up is dependant on how bad the facilities are. Hopefully I'll be in the lower section, avoiding the pillar

Also what is note referring is on my many previous visits to the Valley, there is always a high police presence, especially at the turnstiles which are about 100m away from the ground itself so a warning to those who like a few drinks before the game.

Expect to be a bit higher than usual as well as it's a Bank Holiday 8pm ko. They'll be extra vigilant given that people could have been in the pub all day.

Yes, this is absolutely true. The turnstiles are down the road from the stand, and I seem to remember being searched twice (once outside and once inside) the ground.

On a brighter note, the Antigallican is one of my favourite away pubs. Friendly, good service and free sandwiches and crisps in an adjoining room. Though this might have changed since they got in the Premiership, of course.

Peter Inwood a visiting Leeds fan adds; 'There is one solitary supporting column in the entire ground and guess where it is? Right in the middle, behind the goal, in the away supporters end. Very annoying it is as well. However, I would commend the stewards, who took a relaxed attitude to the away supporters who stood throughout the match, although expect to be searched on the way in'. Otherwise the height between rows is good and the stand quite steep, keeping you fairly close to the playing action. It is worth noting that if your team is allocated the whole stand, that there are refreshment areas on either side of the stand. As to be expected those located by the entrance turnstiles, tend to be busiest, whilst those on the other side of the stand are normally less congested. The refreshment kiosks serve the usual array of hot dogs, pasties and burgers. These outlets are supplemented by separate hot dog stalls. There is also a Ladbrokes betting kiosk inside the ground.

On the FGG website message board, a Man Utd fan wrote;

One of my favourite away grounds and indeed away ends, spoiled only by the joint worst set of stewards in the Premiership (an accolade shared with Middlesbrough), at least as far as United fans are concerned. Even the Police have been known to shrug their shoulders and apologise to away fans at some of their over-zealous behaviour.

Charlton fan replied;

The stewards are bullies, they work at the nearby prision, Belmarsh in Woolwich. The council is strongly against standing (and prehaps the club itself...) and has threated to close parts of the ground before. This is mainly due to some team's fans invading the pitch, pinching a wpc's arse and twice breaking a gate. Give them an excuse to be heavy handed and they'll bite your hand off. There not the soft lads you'll meet up north, but South London bullies so be careful!

Southeastern Trains has published a list of additional services the company will be running to help get fans to and from Charlton's Easter Monday clash with Reading.

The match was moved from a 3pm kick-off to an 8pm kick-off in mid-March so that the game could be screened live by Sky television.

But with engineering work taking place on train lines between Sole Street and Gillingham, plus the game taking place when a normal Sunday service would be winding down, a number of additional services have now been deployed to assist supporters' journeys to The Valley.

The usual hourly Charing Cross to Gillingham service at .26 and the Gillingham to Charing Cross service at .47 will not run, while the Gillingham service on the other half hour (.56 from Charing Cross, .17 from Gillingham) will run only between Charing Cross and Strood and return.

However, the following additional services will run:

18.17 - Strood to Charlton: calling at Higham 18.21, Gravesend 18.28, Northfleet 18.32, Swanscombe 18.34, Greenhithe 18.37, Stone Crossing 18.39, Dartford 18.43, Slade Green 18.47, Erith 18.49, Belvedere 18.52, Abbey Wood 18.55, Plumstead 18.58, Woolwich Arsenal 19.01, Woolwich Dockyard 19.03 and Charlton 19.06

18.33 - Strood to Charlton: calling at Higham 18.37, Gravesend 18.45, Northfleet 18.48, Swanscombe 18.50, Greenhithe 18.53, Stone Crossing 18.55, Dartford 19.00, Slade Green 19.06, Erith 19.08, Belvedere 19.11, Abbey Wood 19.14, Plumstead 19.17, Woolwich Arsenal 19.20, Woolwich Dockyard 19.22 and Charlton 19.25

22.09 - Charlton to Strood: calling at Woolwich Dockyard 22.11, Woolwich Arsenal 22.15, Plumstead 22.17, Abbey Wood 22.21, Belvedere 22.23, Erith 22.26, Slade Green 22.29, Dartford 22.34, Stone Crossing 22.37, Greenhithe 22.40, Swanscombe 22.42, Northfleet 22.44, Gravesend 22.49, Higham 22.55 and Strood 23.05

22.10 - Charlton to Charing Cross: calling at Blackheath 22.15, Lewisham 22.20, New Cross 22.24, London Bridge 22.31, Waterloo East 22.39 and London Charing Cross 22.45

22.36 - Charlton to Charing Cross: calling at Blackheath 22.40, Lewisham 22.43, London Bridge 22.53, Waterloo East 22.57 and London Charing Cross 23.00
