Pitch Size

by bb0118 » 19 Aug 2007 23:13

Anyone noticed its changed?

The OS is saying its 105 metres x 68 metres, when before it was 102 metres x 68 metres?

The corner flag used to be dead in the middle of the corner where as now the corner flag has been pushed out more towards the north and south stands.

Also, the goal - the grass now pokes out into the blue edging behind the goals, which can be contributed to a lengthening of the pitch.

Can anyone confirm that the pitch size has changed?

It was mentioned on the OS a few weeks ago that the pitch had been lengthened. Sorry I don't have a link.

I also read that the pitch had been lengthened on the OS a while back.

I wondered about that actually. I also thought it looked slightly narrower.

The Madejski Stadium pitch will been lengthened by three metres this summer.

The surface will now be 105x68m, complying with UEFA standards.

When Madejski Stadium was first built, the pitch measured 102x70m.

It was then narrowed by Alan Pardew to 102x68m, and will now be changed once again.

Roughly £750,000 has been spent on resurfacing work on the Madejski Stadium pitch this summer.

The installation of Desso technology is scheduled to be completed this Tuesday.

At Elm Park our pitch was 103mx72m, wider than it has ever been at our new home.

Just noticed the bit about UEFA. Is this in case we qualify for Europe. If not what does it mean?

He asked if its not in case we qualify...

We all know what Mr Mad is capable of... and we are only 30mins away from the Capital... and by then the expansion would be completed.

It is hoped the change in length will enable Steve Hunt to time his runs better....

The European pitch size regs extend to domestic leagues at some point over the next couple of years. I know this as Hearts are in the oxford over it - to get to the required length we would have to knock eight rows off the front of the Roseburn stand. Hence all the talk about rebulding Tynecastle or moving to Murrayfield.

I believe yesterday Hearts were given permission to increase capacity at Tynecastle by 6000 to 23000. Therefore my guess is they're looking to remain there.

Yup - though that is for the redevelopment of the old main stand (another Archibald Leitch stand goes, ground fans). The length of the pitch won't be addressed until the Roseburn redevelopment in 2011. Until then, we're on a stay of execution from UEFA.

Not one of his finest, at least. Sterling service for 95 years before it goes. A pity, as it's the grounds last real link with HMFC's golden generation of the Somme.

Are any Archibald Leitch stands listed buildings these days? Fulham perhaps?

Just Fulham and the facade (only!) of the main stand at Ibrox.

I remember a couple of years back Bolton had the same problem had 2 sets of lines - Premiership and European ones and looked a state tbh.
