Hmmm. So the club spend years trying to persuade Vodafone to take up hospitality and basic sponsorship deals to no avail. As soon as we get into the Premier League, they can't get enough. And now they're potential shirt sponsors. Why do I find that so irritating?

It might be them finding it irritating if we go down!

I've heard that Kyocera are pulling out of football altogether, not just the Royals and the MadStad, but also Borussia Munchen Gladbach and Athletico Madrid and their other clubs. They are pulling out not the Royals saying no. I've also heard it's either Vodafone or Fuijitsu, both with local links. So eiher way it's new shirts, though whether with the Premiership or Championship logo remains to be seen. Bring back Hat Painting is what I say! To plastics of course the last reference is totally meaningless.

Don't forget that Vodafone used to be the Manchester United shirt sponsors pre-Glazer, until fans' protests scared them off and they cancelled the contract - which was worth GBP9 million a year. Of course, we won't command anything like that level of sponsorship.

That Friday Feeling I've heard Fujitsu Siemens are sniffing around too.

I'd be surprised to be honest. For the products they sell, sponsoring a team's shirt would not be worthwhile. Sponsoring a stand or corporate hospitality would do however.

Didn't Siemens used to sponsor Real Madrid a few years back or was that before they merged with / were bought out by Fujitsu?

Siemens Mobile, which was quickly flogged off to the manufacturer of the phones BenQ when the board were found guilty of using the company as a slush fund. Two different companies anyway, FSC don't advertise any of their products in this manner. The resellers do that for them in the public domain

That's not to say that they couldn't start to do so. Perhaps we should have PRIMERGY branding at home and FibreCAT away, or something similar?
