How much is a match ticket for a cat?

by Russell Street » 03 May 2008 22:10

Another ditty from my Mum's match day experience today.

Outside the stadium pre-match, there was an old fella with one of those four-wheeled shopping trolleys. On said trolley, there was a blue and white cushion and a (living) ginger cat. She said she was so bemused that she asked the programme seller if she had just seen a cat on a shopping trolley, and he was just as amazed as her.

She failed to get a photo of this, so did anyone else see the man and his cat? I have asked my mother if she is on drugs, but she says she is not.

Can I have some of those drugs please. I really need cheering up, having spent the whole time following the match today listening to Pink Floyd.

Indeed. Last time I felt like this was after the Bolton Play off final defeat. At least on that occasion we had the Royals Rendezvous to go to and be with like minded people. This time I feel all alone!

Having said that the Bolton defeat was worse as it was so sudden, like a heart attack, this has been a slow death and the blow is slightly softend as we have seen it coming for 6 months.

Ah yes, I see...it's a story about 'Mr Pinky' the cat, and some other lunatic - a 'Whitley-born psychic'!

Royals’ last hopes – mog and psychic
By Paul Robins
2/ 5/2008

One man and his moggie and a psychic will be hoping to inspire Reading’s strikers to score a ‘cat-trick’ of goals tomorrow.

Lifelong Royals’ fan Tim Wheeler will be taking his ‘a-mewsing’ mog Mr Pinky on a trip to Madejski Stadium tomorrow for Reading’s crucial match against Spurs.

Sadly the nine-year-old cat won’t be able to cheer on his team from the crowd but he’s hoping to meet some of the players as they arrive at the stadium, especially his hero Marcus Hahnemann.

Mr Wheeler said: “Mr Pinky’s got cat-like reactions as good as Marcus Hahnemann and he loves playing football in the house with a little ping-pong ball.

“Sadly Reading don’t do a kit for cats, but Mr Pinky will have a scarf attached to his trolley and hopefully next year they will bring out a
cat-kit.

“I won’t be on my bike this time as we’ll be travelling to the game on the bus from Tilehurst, but he will have a little trolley to sit on, which he likes.”

The 41-year-old added: “He hasn’t been to the stadium before and I think he’s looking forward to the big day out. He’s not afraid of crowds so it’ll be fun.”

Mr Wheeler and Mr Pinky will be at the stadium from about noon to meet fans.

Meanwhile psychic Royals fan Dean Maynard will be using brainpower to help the team beat relegation.

The Whitley-born psychic, who has previously met ghosts and made predictions for celebrities, has vowed to focus his mind on Stephen Hunt and Co scoring goals.

He asked other Reading FC fans to tune their minds into similar psychic waves.

He said: “My psychic work is down to meditation and visualisation. You can visualise something so badly it can happen.

“Everybody has the ability to be psychic. But more than 90 per cent of people don’t do it. They don’t open their mind up. They are too scared.”

“The mind is a very powerful,” he added, mystically.

The Diary believes that, with help like this, the lads can hardly go wrong in the crunch match.

The cat is often to be seen being pushed around Tilehurst on the bike.

Perhaps said cat should have been allowed to play, couldn't have done any worse than our strikers, midfielders or defenders.
