I think this has got great potential of working = creating an ubelivebale atmosphere so this is what you need!

1) A decent drummer = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj17J1rn ... re=related

2) Have a safe standing area = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05fno4fr ... re=related

3) Bring in a trumpet player to play some tunes = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ17hlEv ... re=related

4) Get a guy who will start chants= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmOHTBx9 ... re=related

Thats all I think to make the atmosphere 10 times better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a couple things will guarantee great atmosphere next season
good football, goals, grudges against teams, and a whole south stand for the away fans.
the things you list just tend to suck atmosphere out of grounds.except safe standing-wouldnt we need some sort of FA directive before anyone could do this?

1. Decent? Go and support Aldershot if that's what you think is decent.

2. You want to sing that badly, go to church

3. That's Cricket!

4. We have been more passionate than that at Reading before.

I've done it once, I'll do it again...

How about make the stewards and police lighten up. I heard a rumour that in the south east corner if you stand up and sing at the away fans you risk having your picture taken nowadays. I wouldn't know, since the plastic season ticket brigade moved in I've been forced out of there and into a poor south stand. I try and make an effort but in general that stand is dead.

It's easy to have a safe standing area when the ground's three quarter's empty.

So you're blueprint of creating a great atmosphere at the Mad Stad is a twat in a MacDonalds hat banging a drum in front of a crowd of less then 6,000 whilst watching cricket.

I think I've got the best idea ever.

Why don't we let fans support the team in whatever way suits them and not try to dogmatically force them to do it the way that others want to? Those who want to chant, dance around, ring a bell, thump a drum etc may do so (within the rules set by the club and stadium of course), while those who wish to savour the game in a different style can do so as well. I know that is a touche revolutionary, but why not try it.

:)

Well, I was thinking of the maggot drowning sort of fishing, but you're throwing a whole new light on it now.

2 world wars, 1 world cup Fulham won the cup final against us at the Madstad because, quite frankly, they deserve it, we don't. We were silent all game, they weren't.

So it had nothing to do with the fact that their team is LOADS better than ours?

So it had nothing to with the fact that NOT A SINGLE Reading fan even turned up?

Hit the nail on the head there. You're right, no it didn't have anything to do with it. We could've had 22,000 Luciano Pavarottis and 5,000 brass bands, and given everyone a free bell, and still lost. Do you expect the fans to raise the team when it's clear they're not putting the effort in? I tried my best to sing throughout the game, but some fans around me, quite justifiably, didn't, and it didn't make any difference.

Fans respond to effort on the pitch, some people will sing whatever but most won't.

That's cute.

Your attitude has sadly confirmed that we deserve no more than Championship footy.
