It is clearly about money rather that bums on seats. After buying an ST, or paper ticket, the club will not care if you can make it to the game or not. I had a situation 3 years ago where my ST was sent to the wrong address and i missed out on 2 away tickets sent through to this address also. Was i compensated - again NO.

Dirk Gently But what if the first 3 or 4 games are against unattractive opposition - or the last 10 games agaisnt the most attractive teams? That could result in a loss of income as people decide to only buy after the teams they're not interested in.

Totally agree..it's like a certain ST I know who couldn't make the Plymouth game and only just made the Palace game due to commitments...it's not like he thought...I will leave the ST application until after the international break and then ask for a discount...a season ticket is what it says...a ticket for the season...not a ticket for part of the season with a reduction for the parts you have missed....HTH...

But if we're struggling to make ends meet, can't sell out every home game etc. maybe it's time for the club to put brains in gear and come up with a creative solution. Afterall, if someone is prepared to commit what is still a significant amount of money up front, regardless of how well the season pans out, then given our current financial situation, it's surely too good an opportunity to pass off so readily.

So, try to work out a tiered pricing structure that reflects the reducing number of games left, and offers a small discount on those that are left. The level of the latter discount should reduce as the purchaser commits to paying for less games in advance.

Alternatively, perhaps it's time for the club to start wheeling out some package deals e.g. next x home games for £x - a saving of £y on paying on a game by game basis.

If we were still in the PL and sure to sell out each game then there would be a reason why someone might be prepared to pay over the odds to obtain a season ticket and therefore ensure they are able to attend all of the remaining games. However, when we are not selling out the stadium for every game, to offer to sell a season ticket to a supporter at more than the cost of paying on a game by game basis is just plain stupid!!

When clubs try to do offer a discount or a package for a certain number of games as you suggest, they usually get a number of ST holders complaining and saying "Hey, we paid all our money up front to get a discount, now you're giving the same discount to people who are only prepared to back you for 3 or 4 games."

They do offer two options for buying STs - whole year of half year. It sounds like you want a 3/4 ST, or a 21/23rds ST - which would be a lot of hassle for the club to set-up (knowing the way the system needs things setup as "products") for the very few people who'd want it.

Phone the club and ask for Mr M's e-mail [they give you his secretary] and e-mail your letter in. He is likely to reply and he may surprise you.

Royalshow If you arrive late to a match and buy a ticket they won't reduce it depending on the X amounts of minutes you have missed. Why should they do the same for this.

That is just a stupid comparison and you should know that... unless I'm being whoooooshed.

If you bought a 7 day holiday instead of the 10 day holiday, would you expect to pay the same?

Eh, how?

A customer wanting to commit to the entire season, however the first two games which are not included, and no discount is including to reflect the true value of these?

That, I wouldn't say is petty.

The club wont do it for the simple fact that if someone missed the first 2 games of the season and then wanted a season ticket, I am sure if the discount came to light and others found out about it, there would be a good number of people who were on holiday for first 2 games ringing up demanding money off the games they missed also as this was not an option. People would also then ring in for any odd match they miss demanding money back. Yes the club have missed out on a further £360+ but by missing out on that it saves them time having to respond to people demanding money back because they couldn't attend Reading v Blackpool on a cold wet December evening.

And on the basis of what market research do you make the assertion 'for the very few people who'd want it.'?

As for the complaints: 'now you're giving the same discount to people who are only prepared to back you for 3 or 4 games.' - simple solution - give a discount but not as great, in percentage terms, as those that is given to season ticket holders.! Not too difficult to work out that solution, surely?!

Lot of hassle? Might be worth it if the club has got a lot of empty seats! I would have thought JM would be one to push the 'you have to work hard to earn money' philosophy! As for the system- if it's that difficult then they've been sold a pup again!! Whether or not they have to be set up as products, it really shouldn't be that difficult. Certainly the electronic sales/vending systems I'm familiar with aren't!

Anyway, unless I'm mistaken, the club have run promotions on advance tickets for a number/group of games before and lived with/put up with the criticism. As I said in my initial response, given the club's challenge of balancing the books and the presence of empty seats at games, it would seem a good time to do it again.

Where there is a will there is a way but often the will seems lacking!

Then you set a precident

so all those that know they will miss the start of the season next season don't buy a season ticket, then after the first game we have 2 or 3 thousand all looking to buy a season ticket , the club can't cope with the volume .....

The club come up with other creative products to get bums on seats, like the recently announced 3 for the price of 2 deal ( QPR for free provided you buy burnley and doncaster tickets)

Def would be better to sell the seat till the end of the season, however that is not possible either with the current set up of 3/4 games available at a time.

At the moment 21 games left at £23, so sell seats to end of season at £483, less £23 for QPR game, and no doubt that offer will be used again later in the season.

All in all a ST is bought by fans that like to know where they are going to sit each game, often with folks that they know and may have known at footy for a few years, it is easier for the club to make one transaction, rather than a lot of small ones, so there is some saving there It is also easier for the supporter to make one transaction, rather than 23, so they are happy.

In all reality a ST is not actually about getting football cheaper, if anything they are used to up the cost of football. using the price per game for comparison is just marketing, same as BOGOF at Tesco etc, the prices are set artificially high to allow for deals to be struck.

FWIW and it's not much had I been JM I would have looked at ridiculously cheap ST for renewals, £345 for adults would have possibly have meant 18k renewed, or replaced, it is similar as to how Norwich do it, they take the ST money as the budget, and make sure they sell out.

Football is simply a habit, feed the habit, and success should follow, or not in the case of Newcastle.

You'll have to get up a lot earlier in the morning if you really want to score points with cheap digs!

Certainly I won't be moaning because I'd be one of the vast majority who would still buy their season ticket at the start of the season. And anyway, don't the club aspire to a situation where demand outstrips supply?!!

'Precedent' (spelt correctly!), 'hassle', 'moans', 'difficult', 'lot of work', 'not easy' etc. etc. - words I would suggest are far more likely to be in the vocabulary of life's 'also rans' than that of 'achievers'!

It is simply just not practical to offer a sliding scale of ST esp as one of the main reasons they exist is to give clubs an income during the off season.

That's why most clubs have a advertised cut off date to prompt the majority people to purchase by this date (although you can still buy).

Other practicalities, there will be game by game tickets on sale - where do you draw a line for sales for a certain game? What if a father & son want to buy as of say the Sheff W game but there are not two seats next to each other for that game, do you tell them to come back after the game or split them up for that game, move someone who's already bought...

The small percentage of people who would want to buy this late, has anyone honestly heard of a situation like this prior to this post - I hadn't, makes it completely unviable. And as has been said, if I then miss a game, do I get the money back or am I left to whistle for it?
