Reading Station advertsing

by One8Seven1 » 31 Jul 2013 20:54

I actually quite like it. I like that the club are finally making themselves noticed across the town, but I can see a few feet going through those boards after the football some time. The view of Beirut out of the windows really sells the town as well.

Saw them earlier. It's a nice touch. Would feel like a total mong getting my picture taken in front of one though.

More of it the merrier! It's about time the club showed some pride and got in the towns faces. I never understood why we didn't do it under SJM's ownership.

Gr8 move Reading. Now all you need is a rumblestix and jester hat dispenser next to the Metro newspaper stands

I think it's telling that our two most recent successes are preceded by a black and white picture.

Agreed. I said this years ago that on entering the town you wouldn't know the club existed. Quite why Reading wouldn't employ me as promotions manager is beyond me. I'm at least 10 years ahead of them.

What next? They'll finally get a permanent shop in the town centre?

More subtle rebranding of us as Royals?

I like that we are trying to strengthen the awareness of the nickname and putting it on the nape of the shirts is a nice touch, just as long as we aren't doing a Hull City Tigers

I would also put some Royals flags up in the middle of the A33 en route to the stadium and make it like a 'Wembley Way" -

I like it, just a shame it's there and not on the other wall so it's the first thing you see upon going up the stairs. I almost left the station without noticing them as it's a bit out of the way.

I don't even mind embracing the 'Royals'...

We are the Royals but do kinda wish we were still known as the Biscuitmen.

Nope. I just remember doing a school trip about the history of Reading and the biscuit factory was such a major thing for the town. I'm 28.

They should drape a massive banner over town hall of Anton's missus in her skimpies

Yes it will rile the PC brigade, but if it boosts the profile of Reading Royals FC then it's an essential marketing and will be a 'water cooler moment' for some time.

I take it this was only ever intended to be temporary as they were gone the last time I used the station.

Probably due to cost of advertising. All these things we are doing to make the club more recognised were Anton's idea, then you see a lack of summer investment, he suddenly doesn't attend a home league match for 2 months when the club was "his obsession", he can't meet the buyout deadline, and the advertising is removed... (why remove it when you want people to notice the club?) I wonder if there is some truth in the rumours he can't afford to run the club, or own it for that matter, and suddenly Madejski is stepping back in and reverting back to type and trying to cut costs where possible. That's just coming from an untrusting old skeptic though.

A club minus AZ and no promotion this season will see all the prized assets sold, the wage bill cut drastically, huge black holes for 3-4 years, the academy giving up it's Cat 1 and it's £2.5m annual bill, and Reading FC needing another miracle worker like Brian McDermott to keep this club competitive in this league, or we'd soon drop back to the third division.

Or he'll buy the club as planned and we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief.

But then we open a shop in the Oracle... I think you guys are way off the mark. We probably had a trial period or a good deal to have it there and didn't want to renew as the initial novelty wore off.

Exactly! Very few businesses chose to advertise in the same space ad infinitum. It tends to be a waste of money as the advert turns into 'wallpaper' after a period of time.
