M Brook
P!ssed Off Oxford definition of 'anthem' is:
A rousing or uplifting song identified with a particular group, body, or cause

If that's the definition of an 'anthem' how comes we got lumbered with 'God Save the Queen' as our national 'anthem'? Surely the least rousing and uplifting song ever!

Yeah, it's a shite song, I agree.
Don't think there are many in this country too fussed about religion or the monarchy.

Another nice idea of support engagement by the club which has ended up being half-arsed and badly run.

They never said what they actually meant by club anthem. Do they mean an anthem like YNWA which the fans all "passionately" sing-along to? Or do they mean a song to accompany a pre-match video montage on the big screen?

I would like to know the results but to be honest this whole idea will end up the same way as the last time we "chose" an anthem in 2005. The two questions are: how long will it last, and when we next vote to pick an "anthem"?

I suspect the poll was run by a Mr Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe - they don't even tell us how many votes each choice got!

Lovely. I'm sure a few "I'm a better fan than everyone else" posters will be along shortly to tell us why everyone else is wrong and they're right that it should have been something else though.

Surely it's obviously the second option (or something close to it), given the club has literally no control over what the fans sing.

Wow what a shite result.

Think we can safely say this experiment will die on its arse. So effectively it's what is already happening then?!

A song from a privately educated, Waitrose shopping indie band played as the backing track for a cheesy montage. Great!!

It's ok, you can probably read the lyrics off of a complimentary spazz-clapper as long as you don't let your wig or jester hat get in the way.

 They played the real Royals Anthem at half-time and, because of its title, had to announce it as The Royals Anthem.

Ashes is a good song but, other than the fact it is one of those frequently played at our games, it has absolutely nothing to do with our club. It is also highly unlikely that many will sing along to it, let alone sing it at other times.

On the other hand the true Royals Anthem is ours and has everything to do with our club. It was composed and sung by an employee of the club and the lyrics are all about the club, match days and the team. What's more, it is catchy, the words are easy to remember and it's easy to sing along to. Yes it's a bit cheesy but IMO it is not naff and is far better than songs that have been released by other clubs - I have the displeasure of having to listen to my neighbours' absolutely awful Chas and Dave style QPR songs.

The club were lucky enough to gifted the Royals Anthem and I am just amazed they haven't grabbed it with both hands and declared it for what it is - The Royals Anthem.

Did they play Ashes today? The brief moment I took my earphones out during the pre match was the video package and they were playing that emo shit.
