Anybody else hear him say something along the lines of "the now legendary atmosphere" pre-match on Tuesday?

RoyalBlue What's his obsession with playing - 'Magic' by Pilot?

Pretty sure I heard it played twice before kickoff yesterday.

Are we meant to base a player song on it?

Given that such a song already exists and was sung many times at the previous game, the only possible conclusion is that the PA guy is more in touch with the fans than you are.

A truly frightening concept, I'm sure you'll agree.

Great Knolly So Green, Do you actually enjoy the announcer and the music ? Maybe you do . It's all about opinions.

Absolutely not, no. The "modern game" isn't for me either, but whether the likes of you and me like it is immaterial - it's here for good.

Other pastimes are available.

As most attend the match are interested in soccer why can't the club just:
- show previous match highlights pre-match and first half highlights at half time?
- have Radio Berkshire team broadcast in the stadium pre-match and half time?
- have Sky or BBC TV round up broadcast at half time?

The half time kick about for local teams and the current kick a ball into an empty goal competition is good for those directly participating but not of interest to anyone else.

Limit the PA to what the NASPAA code states: https://www.naspaa.net/?p=Code%20of%20Conduct
The following principles and expectations underscore the NASPAA’s P.A. announcing philosophy. P.A. announcers who utilize these guidelines will be in a position to announce virtually any athletic event with confidence.
1. Announcers shall understand that their role is to provide pertinent information in a timely manner and to do so professionally and not attempt to be bigger than the game or event by doing play-by-play or by providing commentary in an effort to entertain or to draw attention to himself or herself.

2. Announcers shall understand that because they have a tremendous influence on the crowd and that cheerleading or antics designed to incite the crowd for the purpose of gaining an advantage for their team is inappropriate.

3. Announcers shall promote good sportsmanship and a positive environment by what they say and how they act.

4. Announcers shall treat the opponents and their fans as guests, not the enemy.

5. Announcers shall respect the individuals who are responsible for the conduct and administration of athletic games and events, such as coaches, officials and administrators, and avoid making any comments that reflect positively or negatively on them.

6. Announcers shall respect the participants of all teams and remain neutral when introducing the starting participants, announcing substitutions and the outcome of plays or performances of the participants.

7. Announcers shall be competent. This means following approved announcing guidelines, expectations and policies, such as emergency procedures, provided by the administration or the host facility.

8. Announcers shall be prepared, such as being familiar with the correct pronunciations of the participants’ names, knowing the rules of the sport, the officials’ signals and how the game is played.

9. Announcers shall exhibit professional behavior and represent their school, organization or association with respect and dignity at all times by what they say, how they act and how they appear.

10. Announcers shall avoid using alcohol and tobacco products at the venue.

 Maybe the club could drop the PA and encourage fans to bring small radios with earphones instead, The PA guy can then talk away to all who want to listen even during the game and they could broadcast adverts. The added bonus is the fans sat in their cars waiting to leave the ground 15 minutes before the final whistle can listen on their car radios.

This thread makes me glad I don't go any more. I hate the whole 'match day experience'. Away games only for me these days.

Surprised you fell for the use of soccer -
the origin of the word “soccer”. For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know of as “Football”.

does it show that I am bit bored at work?

Odd, given it's the same at most away grounds too !
I guess you get a range of rubbish PA guys and variants on half time shoot outs. Same awful music selection though.

Nobby Seems the bloke who did the Leeds game and calls us Reading Royals is back to stay.

Is there no-one else who could do this more professionally?

I thought they'd got rid of him after he played music to the Bradford pitch invader.

But I m told we are now stuck with him.

Unless I'm mistaken, this maniacal shouting twat is the announcer at the Ireland v Romania rugby world cup game on ITV now.

He hasn't changed his approach.

He was still hyperboling away well after the second half had started today.

Is that a joke? Did he seriously say that?

That's surely an automatic sacking offence!

He did say 'ladies and gentlemen and all football fans' and I wondered how he saw the crowd dividing along those lines.

One day , do you think it would be possible to give the attendance figure during a bit of downtime, like an injury etc rather than blurting it out during a tense bit of defence or attacking action?

Haha I thought the exact same thing. Rather than doing it whilst the player was injured or was back with the keeper, he announced it as reading were surging forward

If the PA cnut mentions once more about the "hallowed turf" then I'm going to kill myself just to erase the memory

He even manages to make a minutes silence feel insincere. Needs to put his Tony Blackburn voice away for 30 seconds and introduce the silence like a normal person.

The new announcer is a f*cking moron. Bring back Paul Allen - he kept it nice and simple, and the 'back the boys' line usually raised the atmosphere just prior to kick off too. The manner of his sacking, especially with this new guy in now, was disgusting as well.
